downlights and loft insulation

Have downlights in my bathroom upstairs, leading into the loft.
The loft seems to have lots of insulation, except where lights are have big gaps.
However i understand that if cover them over they become a fire hazard, but must be losing lots of heat through them.
Ive been told to put a big plant pot over them or buy a fire hood.
Anyone have recommendations and where can i get these hoods from.

Dont really want to change lights for retardent ones

  • Fire hoods are probably the best option.

Here is how to fit them- Installing fire hoods

and here is a cheap place for them- ebay fire hoods

you will have to email the ebay guy and get a price for the amount you need, but he is much cheaper than screwfix etc.

Fire hoods allow for heat dissipation and so tha lamps should not be damaged.

I'm trying to find out some info about the fire rated enclosed downlights and loft insulation - Is it safe to put the insulation by/around these?

    Thanks

the 2nd reply used to say that as insulation was fire proof just cover over.
    Hence my 2nd reply

However would disagree and as it has been deleted wouldnt do this
