:: Important Notices For Old Style

Hi guys,

Can I please direct your attention to this thread please. It's very important for the site that you don't ask or offer medical advice on the forum. Specifically to this forum, asking for or providing natural alternatives for conditions isn't allowed even if your are a qualified advisor as the forum is essentially anonymous.

If you are worried about your health in anyway or are seeking information about treatments, you should see your doctor.

Thanks

    Copyright

Can I remind members that while pretty much everything on the web is free to READ - it is very much NOT all free to COPY.

On the top of EVERY PAGE here on MSE in the orange bar is a request to respect the copyright of others and to post only a short extract and then include a link for those who might wish to read more.

There is also a rule listed in The Forum Rules which I will quote for you below.

We simply cannot check every recipe that is posted on Old Style and safeguard our site against possible legal action for copyright infingements.

Please use only an extract and a link.

forum_faqs_small_bubble.gifWhat are the rules on copyright?

We ask forum users not to copy long text from other publications/websites as it may breach their copyright. If you want to let people know about something you saw or read elsewhere please use short quotes and state where you got them from, preferably by giving a link to the article.

In terms of our copyright, you can post things you've posted here, on other sites, but not posts by other forum users.

Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. Board guides are not moderators and don't read every post. If you spot an inappropriate or illegal post then please report it to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com. It is not part of my role to deal with reportable posts. Any views are mine and are not the official line of MoneySavingExpert.

Recently, the Old Style Board has been the venue for a lot of public comments about other users and particularly the actions of our Board Guides on there. This board has traditionally been one of our best loved and this is the first real time any such incidents have occured.

It seems appropriate therefore that we remind everyone of a few rules and the type of ettiquette we expect on all boards. The biggest concern is that people are choosing to make their comments on the board. Let me stress that we have never and will never stop people from their right to speak about issues they see. We accept that this is a diverse board, but making these comments public is not the correct way to go about it. The only thing you need to do is report to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com with your views and let us investigate. Public commenting only serves to make the situation worse very quickly and there is simply no need for it.

Secondly, our Board Guides have a very difficult job. They are volunteers who do this job for the love of what Martin has created and we rely on them as our "eyes and ears" on the floor as it were, to keep their board running smoothly. They are not moderators and are not there to be "shot at" when they are trying to keep their board running smoothly. Again, if anyone feels that they are making decisions or doing things that they shouldn't, report to the Forum Team. It is for us to look into, judge and make a decision on, not for comments to be made in public.

The post Martin made recently > HERE < regarding the MSA board is just as relevent here, and i feel that a quick read for most people will help them understand the immense job both the Forum Team and the Board Guides have. Please help us to help you.

Then we come onto the issue of copyright. This is particularly relevent on this board due to, in particular, the recipes that form a fundamental part of the Old Style character. We understand that this is a tough issue to deal with due to the sheer variety of ways that a recipe can be displayed. Fundamental to this though, is that MoneySavingExpert.com may be liable for anything posted where proper credit and reference should be given. Changing the odd word is not enough when posting if an original exists, and we must implore you to help us by being responsible with it. Again, please remember that we may be liable and not taking time to credit a source may cause a huge problem for us.

The Board Guides, on the copyright issue, should also not be taken to task for repeating this information. It is paramount that everyone understands how important this is. If it means multiple posts to protect the site, then there will be mulitple posts. Please give them the leeway they need to do this, and the same goes for other policy that we need to make people aware of.

Finally, it is sad that i am having to write this, and i truly hope everyone can take a step back, draw a line under the recent events and re-establish the friendly, helpful and above all enjoyable place the Old Style Board can be.

    Thanks

  • If you're starting a Daily Thread can you copy and paste this into the top post?

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for xx (add date). This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

    As this is the
Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

  • Hi all

Some of you know there have been a few disagreements on here recently so can we just remind you of a couple of points.

OS is one of the friendliest boards on the forum. Let's keep it that way!

If you see something you feel is offensive please report it to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com and don't reply, quote or mention it anywhere on the thread/forum. If you do it means if there's a deletion to be made the post you reported may be removed, but where it's been mentioned or quoted may not, which defeats the object - the argument would just continue. Just ignore it.

If you do see that some posts have been removed but not others that you feel should also have been removed, then either they've been missed or they've not even been reported so the Forum Team isn't aware.

If it's just that someone else's posts annoy you or you disagree but you know they're not actually offensive, please put that person on ignore. It's what the facility's there for.

Threads don't "belong" to anyone so please don't tell people they can't post in a particular thread.

Try to picture how a post would sound if said out loud, perhaps even read it out loud before you respond. It may sound a lot different and it may help you realise exactly what that person meant.

So, let's draw a line under the recent squabbles and get on with helping people save money.

    Thank you

    Andrea :)
