Quote for Gas Connection £3000!!!! Any grants available?

Hello!

We have a 15 yrs or so old house which must not have had gas near by when it was built because it wasn't connected. Now the mains runs straight past the end of our garden (which is very small) and we have asked national grid for a quote for connection as we'd like central heating instead of our useless storage heaters...

We received our quote today.. £3000.. just to be connected!! Ridiculous, especially as the gas is so close!

Does anyone know if there are grants available, or anyway to bring the price down as we'll need to pay for the heating after that!

    Install heat pumps if you can. My quote for connection to gas was over £20,000!

    Who did you get the quote from? British gas? They wanted £6000 for my parents house. Rang national grid, got it fitted for £275!!

    I got the quote from fulcrum (through national grid) I'm wiaitng for a quote through British gas.

    A friend up the road has is connected for £250!

    wuhooo..! Got a quote yesterday from British gas to the same address.. £318!! Definitly pays to shop around!
