london parking over Christmas.

I am thinking of spending Xmas eve/day in London.I`ve looked on the web but can`t find out what parking arrangements are.This decides whether I drive or get the train.Can anyone help,or point me to the correct website?

Hi there,

Parking in London especially over the holidays, really depends on where in London you will be visiting / staying. Different boroughs have different rules. If you know the name of Local Authority for the area you want to go to, then just go to there website and get the information you need.

If you are going to be in Central London then you will need the Westminster City Council website....https://www.westminster.gov.uk/parking/parkright.cfm

Or if you will be moving about a lot then just find an NCP car park in London.....https://www.ncp.co.uk

As the previous post says the parking will vary according to where you are. Cental London is covered by at least four boroughs some of whom have Sunday parking and Bank holiday parking restrictions up to 10pm. Some allow free parking in bays but not on yellow lines on Bank Holidays if there is a named day restriction applicable to the area. Borough boundaries are also down the middle of streets, so you could pay to park in one borough and actually be parked in the other and get a ticket.

Bottom line if you are not familiar with London parking, don't have a local who has the knowlegde, err on the side of caution and avoid a minimum £50 parking ticket for getting it wrong, possible tow and escalating costs and park in a car park. It might cost a bit more, but the peace of mind is worth it.

The only thing that won't apply since Christmas Eve is and Christmas day is a Sunday is congestion charge as it does not applu Sat/Sun or Bank Holidays.

Thanks for the replies.I`ll check those sites.I`ve only ever driven the car into London on a Sunday as I knew I could park for free in Chelsea - but that was 3 years ago and may have changed.It`s still warm enough to take the bike,but I doubt if I could face a 100 mile trip at Christmas.Not as young as I was and feel the cold now.I used to live in Kingston,so another option is to drive there and leave the car.
