'Chequeless' Money Shop Loan :-/

Hi,

After clearing my past loans with the 'Money Shop', I stupidly took out a £200 loan with them last week.

They want £250 back in 3 weeks and there's no way I can pay it.

I'm a recovering alcoholic and stupidly fell off the wagon last week.

Am already in debt to the tune of £15K +

What's even more worrying is that I told them I was still working in my old job when I haven't worked since January.

Can't sleep worrying about this.

Money Shop apparently take the money straight from your account using your debit card.

I gave them my (secondary) basic bank account Visa debit card, and am now worried I'll be on trouble with Co - op and will lose my account.

Worse still, when Money Shop find out the money isn't in there in three weeks time, they'll call my (ex) employer who'll tell them I no longer work there = fraud = trouble with the law.

The stupid things I've done when I've drank make me feel sick.

Any practical advice as to how I best deal with this would be most appreciated.

Thanks,

Sim.

PS - Thank You God for helping me stay sober this last week. Back to see some old friends at AA tomorrow. Nervous, but looking forward to it :)

I'm afraid I have no advice, but I wanted to let you know someone's reading and replying!
I'm a spendaholic and although not on the same level as alcohol/drug addiction, the fight to NOT give in to the addiction is very hard, and the urge to just give in is so very strong.

We all have days when we "fall off the wagon" one way or another, the other day i bought myself 2 pairs of shoes and a new handbag, altho in total I only spent £20 (!).

I would say try not to be too hard on yourself, you've 3 weeks to try to resolve this, have you tried somewhere for longer term borrowing such as Provident? ( I know they're not ideal, but for sub prime lenders, as long as you undertsand the amount of interest, then I think better than pay day lenders).

    Good luck :)

Sim - nothing useful to add either, sorry. But don't be too hard on yourself. We ALL make mistakes. Otherwise we wouldn't be human - we'd be divine - and that's not possible for anyone (not even Simon Cowell, believe it or not...;)).

    Keep going sweetie. xx

    Hiya,

Good on you for such strong resolve!

I was tempted to borrow the £250, just so I could then pay off the loan, but had a word with myself and decided against it.

Am going back to CCCS, and calling them on Monday.

    Thanks,

    Sim.

    Hi RuthnJasper,

Many Thanks for your kind words too.

I've been struggling with a b*gger of a depression, and that hasn't helped to see things clearly on the financial front.

Having got a plan to paper, I'll be calling / writing to the relevant people on Monday.

Hope your weekend is a relaxing one.

    Thanks again,

    Sim.

Hey Sim, hang on in there. You're back on the wagon now and feeling a bit more straight in the head so deal with it via CCCS, move on and learn from it ;)

Good luck at your AA meeting, i'm sure no one is judgmental and you'll get the support you need x

My main worry is whether or not to tell CCCS that I fraudulently applied for the £200 loan.

I want to be honest, start afresh and do right by people, but I worry that if I am honest with CCCS about my having lied on the form, then my DRO / BR won't even be approved to start with! :o

    What do you think? :(

I honestly don't know Sim, you can only ask. I would hope they would look at each case individually but then again I suppose they have to have a protocol for everyone otherwise people would go out and get loans left right and centre. I'll keep everything crossed they give you another chance x

It's all a bit of a nightmare, as I owe my ex - Girlfriend £2,000. Wish I could afford to pay her back tomorrow, but I just don't have the money.

All in, my debts come to just shy of £16,000 *Gulp*.

Regarding the £200 loan, it's out of my hands, so I'll just do what I can. Am just worried they'll come after me for fraud, as payday loan companies have a habit of contacting peoples employers and that could open a whole other can of worms.

Really do feel I've hit my rock bottom, but at least I'm looking upwards now!

Hope you're making headway with your debts.

    G'night x

First of try and relax you have made a mistake we all do.

Cancel your visa debit card so this will stop any problems with the Co-op just says its been lost.

Contact moneyshop a few days before the loan is due to be paid and offer token payments, explain the situation to them,

    Good plan, thanks.

However, I doubt very much Moneyshop will accept token payments, as all I'll be able to offer everyone (all 14 of them) is £1 a month if that.

My sole income right now is ESA, and I just don't know what to do.

Am looking to start 'permitted work' to bring home some extra each week, but am so stressed at the moment.
