I too feel sorry for all these people who bank with Natwest who it is affecting - however have a thought for us who don't bank with Natwest but are still waiting for wages which should have been paid yesterday. (We cannot go into Natwest as we don't bank with them!)
For Natwest customers if the system rectifies itself today their accounts may be back up and running, however for others like us the next BACS run will be Monday....so that will be four days without money...and counting!
I have cancelled direct debits and luckily those companies have been ok and we hopefully won't get charged by our bank - as if we did - our bank wouldn't refund the monies and I'm sure there is no way we could claim compensation from Natwest!
I also feel sorry for the small businesses who may be struggling already and this could push them further over the edge.....GC Jan '17 £237.54/£350GC Dec £193.02/£400

My husband is saying that if it isn't fixed by say sunday (I have trouble thinking anything will be solved over a weekend) he will have to get a payday loan to tide us over until next friday. The interest on those things are phenomonal! I can't imagine being able to pay that back.
You can withdraw upto £300.00 cash if you go into a branch.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0 -

Thats what concerns me. If it is the case that the balance hasnt changed but money is there then thats one thing but if this 'glitch' has stopped money going in will they still let us have it? I can't get into my branch for about another 2 hours. I am dreading going down there for one in case they say no and then I will be stuck and 2 because I broke down on the phone and don't want o get upset in front of a full bank if I can help it.0 -

I work for the Financial Ombudsman Service and under the dispute resolution rules normally non customer's of banks cannot complain to/about that bank. The only exception is if the complaint is about a payment service, such as a transfer being made incorrectly etc.
This one is tricky as it is a result of a technical error which has meant transfers cannot be made. I'm tempted to say non customers won't be able to complain to them but they may be a bit forgiving - who knows.
We'll have to wait and see!0 -
Is this a technical glitch or is there another financial problem affecting RBS group ?
I suppose we may or may not find out.
It was only fairly recently that Alastair Darling admitted that RBS were hours from going bust at the time of the 2008 financial crisis. This is when they were bailed out. If you see David Cameron and George Osborne running around central London, you will know it is not a technical glitch.
Anyway, luckily I took money out before the problem occurred and have enough food in the cupboard.
I feel sorry for those people who will be attending various events over the weekend e.g Hackney Festival, IOW festival and any weddings etc. If they can get money from a NatWest branch, then they will ok for spending money, but if they can't, they won't be happy. The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0 -

Not sure but even if you have zero balance you can gets funds out. They will just retake it once it's sorted0 -
Can a bank run be prevented by a technicial glitch which stops people from transfering money out of their accounts?0
