Southern Electric Quantum Gas Meter Problem
I just inherited this meter last Saturday. The problem is that the meter does not have a separate units display, it just has a single display (for payments/credit). Going through the many menu's, there does not appear to be a page which indicates number of units used!
I realise I should have posted a photo of this meter, but it looks similar to the E6V, although it does not have the meter units used display on the left hand side. The E6V also seems to have two distinct halves, where'as my meter does not - its all one unit.
Will post a picture if needed. Southern Electric did post me an instruction leaflet, but my meter does not resemble the ones (E6V & R5), pictured in the instruction leaflet (which have two displays, one for units used and the other for credit/payment information).

Think this might help you get your readings:

Thanks for this - very helpful.
I recorded the Meter Index on Saturday 22 August 2009:
Meter Index
99999.883m3 C
This should have changed with gas usage since then.
Useful to know that the meter does not update if gas is flowing, and that in this case you need to press the black button to update same.

Just a quick update on this...
I'd finally established that the meter reading was given on the page headed "meter Index".
The reading given was 99999.883m3 C. The problem is - this reading never changes, which made me question whether this was the meter reading or something else.
Phoning Southern Electric armed with the information from above, they believe that the meter has become "stuck", i.e. it neither registers gas used, or credit used (as the credit total never changes either). Apparently the meter is now dispensing gas for free!
They will come to change the meter in three weeks time.
