    Hardly smug! Fact, yes!

Did you read the terms and conditions on the site you applied on?

Likely a broker site and this likely their fee.

Tact doesn't cost anything. I wouldn't have been surprised if he put 'LOL' after his reply.

Anyway, I didn't agree to give these people any money, I know this because I know I wouldn't benefit from it.

Like I said, I used to write phishing scam protection advice and stuff, I know all the tricks, I had entered my card details simply as the method of repayment when the other place did my application.

I also unticked, give my stuff to third parties. But I know they did as I received about 356,000 txt messages about loans, and have had to change my mobile number !

OP your whole posting history is about debt, you should know better than to give out your card details on a broker site really!!

The last time I applied for a loan, the idea was that they gave ME money, which they did.

Can I ask what you expected when they asked you for your Debit Card details? The only time anyone has ever asked me for those details is when I have been buying something and I have been expecting them to levy a charge.

I applied for a payday loan, then decided it wasn't a good idea, as I would be better just selling some stuff on ebay to cover my outgoings. I applied via what seemed a quite reputable firm, but they have handed my card details onto a firm called

mwsf.co.uk, who are basically, these people :

EQI Independent Ltd trading as Moneywarehouse PO BOX 290, Cheadle, Cheshire

Anyway they have basically stolen 36.31 from my account today, meaning I can't go shopping (yes sad and broke I know) and my bank the Natwest, just couldn't care less.

Anyone have any input, or can help ? Thanks

I'd love to read something OP has written about fraud prevention.

This example is one of the most basic yet OP had no idea what to do about it nor had any idea how certain it was to happen in the first place.

Even with the outstanding fraud prevent skills, hasn't even told us the company responsible for passing his details on.

About a year ago, I was desperate for a loan - desperate enough to try all the websites I could find. I didn't realise that loans for poor credit (and mine was nowhere near as bad as some - no defaults at all, nothing worse than one month late payment) do not exist any more. All I got was an endless stream of emails and texts offering me payday loans and guarantor loans. A small percentage looked as if they were from actual lenders other than payday / guarantor lenders, but by the time I had been bombarded with the brokers, I was beginning to realise that those appearing to be lenders were just brokers cleverly disguising themselves until the last minute.

To be fair, in all those emails and websites, I never found even one that didn't make it perfectly clear that a broker fee would be payable. I never entered my card details anywhere except, eventually, on Wonga's website, and so I was never debited with anything I did not expect.

I find it hard to believe that there are websites around that really do not make it clear they are taking your money. They do, after all, have to maintain certain standards. Every time anyone here has specified the website used, it has been perfectly clear to me that payment is involved.

OP - I for one would be genuinely interested to know which site you went to originally, and on which site you entered your card details.

Yes, that was my first thought. Should be an informative read . . .

Isn't it possible that as the OP didn't go through with the loan they didn't expect to be charged?!?! It's so disheartening to read comments where people are negative to the OP when all they're doing is asking for advice!

It's one thing to do that out of ignorance or naivete, it's another to do that and then claim you're really clever because you have a background in fraud prevention but you did it anyway.

    ++1

There seems to be a trend on here recently of Financial Services "experts" who clearly don't have a clue about the industry they work in.
