Official Insert:

Hi, we have a more recent list of which organisations accept Amex on our main site: Amex Acceptance.

Back to Galstonian's original thread..

The new and hopefully improved version of this thread. !Apologies to the red/green colour blind among us but these made most sense to differentiate between do/don't. !Any comments, corrections etc.. please let me know.

If someone posts that a retailer accepts and someone else that they do not I'm putting them in both lists until told otherwise (e.g. Gap)

American Express have a policy of not signing up online gambling sites so it is very likely that NO ONLINE CASINOS ACCEPT AMEX. !I've listed "gambling online" in not accepted rather than keep adding individual sites and casinos.

If you want to request a retailer is added you can ask Amex to contact them using this form

G.

Martin recently contacted Amex and got this reply:

Dear Martin,

The Card is widely accepted on the high street and in restaurants as well as all major petrol stations, major national supermarkets, train operators and
lots more.

However, there were a couple of names on the list of NON accepting merchants, that actually do accept :

Jessops
Halfords

In addition, we sign up merchants every day, so a couple that will begin accepting Amex very soon include:

JJB Sports and London Underground

There is one merchant listed that we are unfortunately prohibited from signing. That's Blue Square, it's a gambling site, and we have a global policy of not
signing up these sites.

Hope this helps,

    Blah Blah Blah

    Asda

    Blah Blah Blah

My Amex Blue has been rejected by Asda 4 times in the last fortnight. However, it works everywhere else okay - Tesco, Somerfield, Shell, ..........

I had to use More THh>n instead.

Cashiers unsure if Amex still accepted by Asda.

That could be the reason why. I stopped using Amex at Asda because I get sick of explaining to them I didn't have a PIN for my Amex, but I'll be going there sometime over the weekend - probably - so I might see if I can use it.

OK, just got back from Asda's. I successfully paid by Amex, so it's still accepted. In fact, I didn't have to tell the cashier that it wasn't chip'n pin. He swiped it automatically. :)

It gets rejected by the Chip 'n' Pin machine at Asda, and by their traditional machine (which accepts my More Than card).

My Amex card is fine as I still use it where I can, eg Shell, Currys etc. Definitely something amiss at Asda.

    It Asda be. :)
