Thank you for such a useful posting. Please could you post the recipe for letnils with mint and garlic. Sounds an unusual combo. I've done lentils with cinnamon before which I loved and OH hated. Oh well!!

I think thats everything, I would estimate for the first time this may cost you about £30 if you had to buy everything on the list, but you would then be building up your storecupboard and wouldn't need to buy certain items next time. I would also say instead of getting pots of fresh herbs from the supermarket, plant some from the garden centre in your garden and you will always have them!

Hummus and Garlic Pitta Breads
2 garlic cloves
2 red chillies deseeded
bunch fresh coriander
2 x cans chickpeas drained
Juice of one lime
4 tbsp of olive oil
salt and pepper to taste
Place garlic, chillies and coriander into a food processor and whizz until finely chopped, add chickpeas and whizz again. Add lime juice and olive oil whilst the processor is running until the mixture is a paste. Season to taste.
3 tbsp olive oil
2 garlic cloves crushed
2 tbsp fresh parsley chopped
4 white pitta breads
Mix the garlic, oil and parsley and season well. Grill one side of the pitta bread for about 40 seconds and then turn over and lightly score the other side. Spread with parsley, garlic and oil and grill for another minute.
