old towels and bedding

Hi

I'm moving house shortly and my mum has bee really kind and bought us some nice new towels and bedding as a moving present :)

I was just wondering before I threw the old ones out whether old towels and sheets could be used for anything else? it seems wasteful and not very OS to just throw them away

any ideas?

    My Mum used to cut up old sheets and use them as dusters.

    Cut them down into squares about two feet by two feet and keep them for cleaning cloths. We got given a stack of towelling nappies 15 years ago when our first child was born and though we never used them as actual nappies they were invaluable as "dribble cloths" for all sorts of things...mopping up juice and pee, lining the changing mat etc. Now our kids are pretty big but I still have the dribble cloths plus a big pile of toweling squares of the same size. I use them for mopping up spills, as dusters, floor drying cloths, cleaning the windows...anything you can use a j-cloth for, you can use a toweling square for, really.

    Sheets can be cut up for fancy dress outfits, made into drawstring bags to store laundry in, shoe bags for school, lining for curtains, backing for cushions etc. Pillowcases make great storage bags for sweaters etc over the summer...they allow the wool to breathe, unlike plastic storage bags.

    I took single bedding and towels to our local homeless overnight shelter.

    i recently put some on freecycle and had lots of interest (more than I would of expected). mine ended up going to a lady who's dog had just had puppies!

    we did keep a few in the garage to wipe down bikes and other outdoor toys.
