How long for ATOS to process IB50

Options
Hi there,
I was just wondering whether there was an established timescale for ATOS to deal with IB50 paperwork. Mine has been lodged with them for 6 weeks. Clearly there are many variables, but it would be useful to know the experience of others. I'm currently dealing with cancer, but understand that this in no way gives me any automatic right to IB as I'm not terminal.
Thanks for any thoughts on this.

ATOS don't have any timescales although if you feel they are taking too long then a letter of complaint to the DWP might not go amiss.

You are right that as the cancer is not terminal this doesn't give automatic right to IB. Good luck for the future.

    hi james :o
i returned my IB50 in april and it took 6 weeks to hear back form ATOS stating that with the information and evidence i had given them ,i didnt need a medical and was awarded it for a further 3 years.
however i did go for a medical in 2006 and the doctor that assessed me said he would make a phonecall when he had finished my apt to make sure that i heard nothing from them for a few years .
he was true to his word as i didnt hear from 2006-2009.
hopefully you shouldnt have to wait too much longer.

It does vary how long it takes before you hear anything, it can be as low as a few weeks but more likely it will be a few months depending on the area and workload.

Things seems to be taking longer these days with the increased workload the DWP are having to deal with.

OK thanks, appreciate the replies! I'll just leave the DWP folk to it. I guess knowing would help me with my financial planning. It's already reduced by an ill-health pension on the basis of my condition, but I don't suppose this has any bearing. I've never had a medical in 20 months of being a claimant, so I guess one might be due!

Mine took from end of April to Monday 6 July, when I got a letter saying (as I expected) that I wouldn't need a medical as the information I gave on the IB form was enough to continue to qualify me for IB.

I have heard that the longer they take to get back to you, the less likely it is that you will need a medical. That's been the experience of people I've spoken to, anyway...don't know how true it is.

OK, thanks. I think I submitted mine on May 17th. So, I'll take the delay as a possible good sign ... but I'm prepared for anything!

Anything upto 5 months(even more in some areas)seems to be the norm judging by post on this and other forums, the good news of course is that your I/B continues to be paid while you wait.

Five months ... wow! Why so long I wonder? Seems crazy but, as you say, the award continues in the meantime. Well, I'll close this chapter then & get on with popping the pills and trying to beat the Big C.

Sent my IB50 back the first week in March 2009 not heard a thing back from them as yet.
Never had to wait this long before, been claiming income support with SDA since 1996, normally i send the IB50 back with all my supporting evidence from my GP and specialists and usually hear back within a month that my payments will continue without the need for a medical. It's constantly on my mind whats happening and i dread the post coming through the door now each morning it's been that long. :(
