That kind of applesauce isn't the same. :-/
Closest is the baby applesauce and using that isn't very frugal at all. I will just have to make some and bottle it.

apple pie filling is the same as apple sauce but more sugar
just chop the apple add sugar to taste and a drop of water and stew till soft0 -
I remember making "apple snow" many years ago at school. Just stewed apple mixed with whipped egg white ... looks lovely and goes further.

never heard of apple snow, sounds nice, do you put sugar in the egg whites to make it sweet or is the apple enough??0

Put some into the egg white but use less than usual in the apple. And apple meringue pie is nice too.0
