That would be because there's no set rates for income for PLA.

Any entitlement is calculated on your husbands net income, minus allowable deductions such as mortgage payments, rent, council tax, home insurance. Things like utility bills and car insurance aren't taken into account.

I like how they have pretty much stolen a spreadsheet I designed several years ago, that was an original creation, and passed it off as theirs. Wondered why I got asked for it last year...
  • ive been trying to get parents learning allowance and childcare grant since i applied in june..its been a nightmare.they keep requesting my sons birth certificate to get childcare grant, after sending it off and they return it,i waited at least 2 months only to be told they lost the copy and i have to resend it..so i called the direct line last week to the actual people who asses applications and she said she will send me an envelope which she will receive directly and asses it for me.i still havent received the envelope she sent 24th december....nightmare ..financialy i cant keep sending my son to nursery due to low funds

Oh all this applications is annoying! i am trying to fill the forms in (on line) and got to my hubbys income and any other income like tax credits then the main outgoings such as the mortgage.

But what it doesnt tell you is is it based on per month or per year????
and one thing tells you to put in hubbys inome after deductions yet something else says his income before deductions.

its all so confusing, i am hoping college will have a session in study skills to go through it or else i wil have to go talk to the ladies in finance at college!

It's the yearly figure that is needed, and it's based on an academic year, so from September to August.

If SFE do as I do, they should review every few months. Where PLA/Childcare is all on estimates, it needs to be reviewed to try and avoid huge overpayments.

Very useful, I need to know same thing, as I have 2 babies (mature student) and am hoping to go to Uni in Oct. I need some help with funding for childcare as for 2 bubbas it's £300+ per week!!

Taiko, do you know we can use the childcare vouchers in conjunction with a nursery fee grant? Was hoping we can as DH can get those through his job.

Also, there is a discretionary fund the Unis give out-does anyone know how to apply for that?

Is it worth applying for everything and seeing what the outcome is??

A long time, from what I'm hearing. However, give them a call on 01325 215194 and they should be able to give you a better timeframe.
