Hmmmmmmmmm - not much discussion going on here so let me kick it off. :footie:

The only thing I would add to the original article is to get in quick and register with your chosen trade-in company as soon as you've decided you want to trade in your phone.

In particular, Envirofone appear to have been slashing the values of some models quite dramatically, and could (and no doubt will to some extent) do so again in the future. They do however appear to honour any price they have already agreed with you, so don't hang about and make sure you register with them and confirm the deal ASAP to make sure you don't lose out by any future fall in prices.;)

Just in case you missed it in the "Recycle Your Old Mobile..." article, this is the link to the ongoing thread which originally inspired said article:

  • You would get more for any phone if you sold it on ebay. I could offer you more for it and sell it on for a profit!

I don't think this is always true, especially in Argos points - 2 examples:
Nokia 6630 locked to 3 - envirofone 50 quid cf ebay 60 less ebay and paypal fees
Motorola A835 locked to 3 - ef 20 quid cf ebay 22 less costs again
    I think....

Thanks for this VERY useful thread Martin, I think this is a great idea and I've already registered with envirofone. Just trying to get my hubby to part with his many old phones that he's convinced he still needs. I've managed to get one off him so far, which is worth £30, so not bad for some Saturday morning reading!!
My mantra is "Never pay full price!" ;)

Martin in his article says remove sim code or security code which will hamper testing.
How do you do that ?
    Cheers

There should be a security option within the phone setup menu - you can disable require security code (IIRC it usually is enabled on some phones, so that you require the code when you insert a new sim or when one that is not one of the last 5 inserted is inserted).
Certain OTT members have caused me to add this disclaimer: all advice given is free of charge & as such should be taken to be IIRC (as I don't spend hours researching all answers  )!

Has anyone tried mobile phone buyer? I e-mailed them and got a quote of £17 for my Sagem my-x2. Basic phone.

    Envirophone only offered around £6-7.

I'm hoping to send my phone off to MPBuyer in the next few days.

Which website are you talking about ?

I've looked at http://www.mobilephonebuyer.org.uk and http://www.mobile-phone-buyer.com but neither of them appear to buy mobile phones as far as I can see.

I did however stumble upon http://www.thephonebuyer.co.uk who DO appear to buy mobile phones.

Hey! That's on the list of websites martin suggested in his article. It's https://www.mobilephonebuyer.net. You have to e-mail them and wait for their reply which normally takes a day.

In case you 've not read his very interesting and useful article, here it is:

Ahhhhhhhhh, my mistake. I thought I was reading the other thread (the original Envirofone thread which I referred to in post #2 above) and I hadn't referred back to the first post so I didn't think to re-read Martin's article.

Still, at least now everyone can see the direct link in this thread without having to refer back to the article.

    Ho hum......... :o
