Hi All,

My late father owned about £200 worth of 25p shares in a company that has recently been bought out, Psion. Unfortunately, the registrar handling the cash offer (Capita) have stated the 25p share certificate we have is not valid for redeeming the offer, and we should contact another registrar (Equiniti) to convert the certificate into the newer 5p share certificate. The other registrar wanted around £70 for this service, which is a pretty hefty proportion of the shares' worth.

Does anyone know if this is standard practice, if there's a cheaper way of obtain the new certificate, or if there's an alternative way of cashing in the shares? It's galling that small investors have no real influence on the decision to re-value the shares, yet the charges are disproportionately high for them.

I'm afraid, for smaller shareholdings, the registrars' charges for lost certificates are pretty punitive.

I'm about to leave...well maybe.

I have shares in both BAYE/SAYE schemes, if I leave can I keep them there, or do I have to cash them in?
