You should have loads of time to get fit for a race for life.
Start slow and build up very little amounts each week. About 10% max per week increase in distance max.
Thanks for the welcome - i think i will start with laps around my "block" then extend it to include the nearby park/s depending on which way i turn when i leave the house......my local race for life is normally held in June (i think....) if i aim for the 5k i need to increase my distance by just under 0.25km for 22 weeks (between 1st Jan to end of May) or the 10km @ an increase of 0.5km per week......
i think i will start off aiming at the 10km and then re-evaulate after a couple of months.......
looking forward to sharing my progress with you allLBM @ 01.01.12 TOTAL DEBT = £13301.77. LH number 320

Oh boy your doing well Mascott! I still havent been out despite good intentions, it always happens like this, once I stop I just cant get going again  Being a dogwalker does not help as I just dont feel like going out again in the afternoon after walking all morning and lunchtime.:o Evenings/weekends are out as I have 3 kids! Its all excuses though!!
Will kick myself into touch soon, got all xmas stuff sorted and will be getting quieter now so will get back in the habit!0 -
Poodlelegal, thanks....
It's probably the hardest bit about running, or gyms
Just getting out there.
But I really try hard not to focus on it, and to just get that gear on.
You can always come home if its really tough (you wont!)
I am thinking of whether a post on page 1 with people's targets might help.....but I really don't want to put people off, as not all of us would have any target, its more about enjoying being out. (I do have a target, but others maybe not!)
We'll see....Sealed Pot Challenge 2013: No 1898
