    White spirit? I say that because DH managed to get Plumber's Mate EVERYWHERE when he was plumbing in a new basin and it was really gungy but white spirit just lifted it off. I usually find that if white spirit doesn't lift something, then meths will

    another vote for WD40..it got dried on silicone sealant off my new double glazing....:D

    Thanks all. Have made some progress - the WD40 definately helped remove the general stickiness, but now using a metal filler spreader thing to get off the bits.

    Think I'll spray the WD40 over all of it to stop it being sticky, do as much as I can, then leave the rest to come off over time!

    Yes - it is an Ikea mat!!
