Do Councils buy back council Houses?

in House buying, renting & selling
I own an ex Council House & am now considering selling it & would like a quick sale with as little hassle as possible.

I bought it through a private sale 9 years ago but am now thinking of getting rid & renting in a better area.

Do Councils buy back ex Council Houses to replenish their stocks?

    Are you looking for more than you paid for it?

    Why not just sell it on the open market?

    I didn't buy it off the council, but if it meant that I could get rid with the minimum of hassle I would be happy to sell it at a slightly lower price than if I was selling on the open market.

    When we bought our first house (admittedly it was 20 years ago) it was an ex LA house that the original tennants had purchased. It had a restrictive covenant placed on it which stated that for 10 years from the original sale from the LA, it had to be offered back to the council before being placed on the open market.

    A family member of mine found that the council didn't have enough money in the pot to be buying back, as they have to bring all of the current stock up to scratch in a certain amount of time. Never hurts to ask though. It was literally a case of "We don't have the cash" rather than "We don't want it"

    Some Housing Associations do, but expect them to offer much less than the value.
