Packets Sent - Packets Recieved

I have no idea what this means:

Wifi- Activity

2hr 26 minutes surfing.

Packets Sent: 65,000
Packets Received: 20,000

The sent packets are now increasing at 1500 to the received packets at 100.

This is continuous & its even happening when my laptop is idle & I am making a cup of tea..

What is this?

& why is sending much higher than receiving when I should be receiving info not seding it...

Do it with as little running as possible (close IE, messenger), and you will see the applications change colour as they are talking, watch the packet count at the same time.

You've got firewall, ie, java stuff (quick start, and updater), mcafee, various ports related to file sharing, time server, print spooler, dcom open.

With no activity visible in tcpview, the packet count is still rising? which operating system?

Is the network connection icon constantly lit, is it wireless or wired?

I'm guessing, but possibly stopping the mcnasvc service in services.msc might be something to try, it could stop the net working until you restart it though.
