kinship allowance???

Hi

Can anyone please explain what kinship allowance is and should we be getting it?

We have had residency (via the courts) of our grandson since 2002, we receive CT, WTC, and CB and on occassions CS via the CSA, as both NRP's are non compliant.

I ask about the kinship allowance as I came across it on MSE after reading another posting but I have never heard off it and know nothing about it, I pressume that if you dont know about it its not something that gets promoted by the relevant agencies that pay it.

I would be very grateful for any advise or info.

Can I suggest you read Mooloo's thread....

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php?t=1736271&page=105

There is a lot of talk on there regarding Kinship and she would be interested in your take on Residency as it has been suggested to her as an alternative to Kinship...I think. Its a long thread but really worth reading. Kinship issues started around January 2010 if you dont want to read the whole thing. My link takes you to some relevant stuff. Mooloo had to fight very hard to get Kinship but i know there are links she used.

I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.

if you are getting WTC/CTC, child benefit and maintenence isn't looking for kinship allowance a tad on the greedy side, it's your grandchild for god sake, you want paid for looking after your own grandchild even though you get all those other benefits
    GREED!!!!!

I think you should get from up your own backside!!!

If it wasnt for people like us it would cost a dam site more for tax payers if he was in a care home, and foster carers and the like get a dam site more money than we do.
We wanted to give him a better life than if he was put into care.
If you read it correctly you would see that child support is not paid very often and we have had a very long and ongoing fight to get any of that.
As for getting those other benfits we get the tax credits because the government deem we dont earn enough money, perhaps we should rely on just social security benefit cos then we'd certainly be rolling in!!!

I suggets if you dont have anything constructive to say you keep your opinions to yourself yo obnoxious t**

I think using the word 'greed' is a bit unfair. Not knowing the personal circumstances of the OP how can any of us be so judgemental. Also you could argue that if a person is entitled to a benefit, then why not claim for it after all we know its a struggle just to get by these days.

You'd have to sacrifice child benefits, tax credit and maintainence if you got kinship anyway so may actually be worse off, best asking social worker if they can advise more though as different authorities have different kinship allowance rates.

Ive noticed that you have been writing alot of these obnoxious posts to op's asking for advice & as i'm nicer than you are i'm not going to be vicious & nasty about it.

Its about helping people get their entitlement! Not about benefits policy! This board is here for help and support for those on or looking to claim benefits, not for judgement.

Of course we all know the benefits system is a mess

Whatever you're political persuasion, we're all aware the benefits system is a mess. Whether its the malpayments of tax credits on one hand, benefit fraud on the other hand, or simply the fact that sometimes it doesn't pay to work - everyone has their grumble.

This board is here to help people with their money though..

Yet that isn't what this board is for. It's here to help people find out what they are entitled to under the current system, and to help them get it. Benefits do provide a lifeline for many, and this site is here to help people with their money, and not to judge. Of course, how to illegally defraud the benefits system shouldn't be discussed here, but ensuring you're getting your entitlement is exactly what its about.

Want to discuss the benefits system? Go to the discussion board

If you want to discuss the benefits system itself and issues around it, the appropriate place isn't here but the Discussion Board and even there, please remember courtesy and not to make it personal about anyone. This site's prime purpose it to help people with their money and I will always act to protect that.

    Thanks for your co-operation

Breast Cancer Survivor (I love your username, full of hope for others :)) I think it's best to ignore this eejit.

Reading a couple of their posts tonight, it seems they're just after a rise/attention from other posters. The best way to reply to people like that is just to ignore them - they'll hate it. :rotfl:

I just don't understand why some people get a kick out of being nasty to other people that they don't even know & can't stand to see people being picked on.

Your right of course though & hopefully they will go back to where ever they came from.

Thank you everyone who gave positive comments.

As previously stated I was unaware of the kinship allowance and as is quite often stated by people on the tv there are too many who dont claim what they are entitled to.

My family are not benefit leeches, my husband works, he has been out of work a couple of times, once after suffering from an accident at work which made him unable to work for just over 2 year for which his employer sacked him because the specialist could not give a specific time when he would be able to return to work and if he would be capable of doing his job, this accident has left him partially disabled , dispite this he still went and found another job so we were not stuck on the dole, he wanted better for his family, then again he lost his job and had to go on benefit, however he still got off his backside and found another job within weeks, we do have some pride and would rather be on less income and stuck on the dole reaping in loads of money.
Although my husband works, we are infact worse off than if we were on the dole,we pay all off our own rent and ct so if we are entitled to other income why should we not claim it.

Have you checked whether you are eligible for help with rent and CT?

Yes thank you, we have checked and put in the claim just incase and we are a couple of pounds over so not entitled. Our rent alone is 5pence short of £100 a week and CT is £107 a month.
