Married man's tax allowance

When was this allowance abolished? At the point of abolition, did it still apply to young people and can you claim for a tax rebate if you should have received it?

Don't know the exact date but it was approximately ten years ago.
Edit: It was abolished by the Labour government, so it was not that long ago, probably closer to eight years.
Edit again: Sorry ohreally, missed your post! Yep, I again, 1999/ 2000 sounds about right. Don't seem to be able to find a more specific date.Gone ... or have I?0 -
I believe you had to be born in 1935 or before to retain this. They stopped it for anyone born after that date.0

Found it!
It applied to young people until 6 April 2000. I am not aware that you can claim a tax allowance for seven years ago, though you would need to double check that with the HMRC.Gone ... or have I?0
