Help with old share certificates and pension contributions

Hi,
I am new to this forum, so sorry if not posted in correct threads.

I would like advise re some share certificates I have and pension contributions i have made.
I worked some years ago for The Burton Group Plc who were taken over by GE Capital. I was made redundant in 1991, I received monies from them and a letter from personnel outlining other info.
I have in my possession a share certificate showing 130 shares, appropriation date Dec 88 in the Burton group profit sharing scheme.
The shares are valued at this date at £1.87 each. The registrar is National Westminster Bank plc based at Caxton house, Bristol.

How do I check into these shares, ie value of them now and cashing them in?

Also I have two staff superannuatin fund certificates showing contributions at £535.71 and £182.17. It states on the bottom of the certificates that on leaving service options, I could be eligible for a refund of contributions with interest, less statutory deductions? I thought you could not have any money back until pension age or transfer to another pension scheme.
I am currently unemployed, aged 45 and unlikely to work full time again. What are my options with these certifcates - can I cash them in or would I have to wait until pension age or working and then transfer to another pension fund I choose to set up?

Many thanks for any advice given.

If you read this thread, you'll get some idea about minimum pension age:
    Retire at 50 in 2010

    I hope this helps.

  • Thanks for info re pensions. I thought my money would be unavailable until retirement age. Unfortunately I am only 47 in 2010.
Can anyone help re shares enquiry. i have emailed Kingfisher as that is the address of shares registrar, but still not heard a reply yet.
I am hoping I may be due some dividends and have the option to sell my shares if possible. I am desperately needing money as unemployed!:(
  • I too have old shares issude through the natwest but cannot find address details or telephone number. Can someone help please?

Natwest Registrars no longer exist: sold on a couple of times and now Computershare. There are other registrars (e.g. Equiniti, Capita), but Computershare should be your first port of call.

    Contact details:
    https://www-uk.computershare.com/Investor/CompanyList.asp
Telephone numbers vary according to which company's shares are held, but find them in the list and click the relevant Contact link. If they're very old shares and the company's not listed you may need to establish if there have been any name changes through takeover, merger, rebranding etc.
