I want to have glazed turnips with our dinner Dinner is slow roast lamb, so the oven is on for 3.5 hours (at about 160) Can I put the washed turnips in an ovenproof dish, with some stock and butter and do them in there for an hour or so, or am I better off just doing them on the hob like I always do? Freezer cookie dough
I'm on a really tight budget for Christmas this year and am making as much as possible from scratch. One thing I like to have available over Christmas is cookies - , you know the sort, all big and chewy :) I used to buy in several bags, but they are so expensive at over a pound for just five......just shocking!! What I…

Pasta sauce & soups (etc): what's best, canning or freezing?
What's best for storing pasta sauces, soups, and the like: home 'canning', or freezing? I'm thinking about both taste, and texture. Although home 'canned' sauces are faster to use, I'm assuming frozen ones can be melted fairly quickly in a saucepan?

Fresh herbs - how to use
I've grown some mint, parsley, coriander, chives and thyme on my windowsill (Charlie Dimmock eat yer heart out!!) but I have no idea what to do with them now? I chop the chives up and use them in scrambbled eggs but that's it. Any ideas what else I can do with them and how I do it?…

My MIL sadly died before I could ask her for the recipe she had for a wonderful pork pie she made us every xmas. I know she minced the pork herself, and the pastry was made with hot water. I think Gary Rhodes did one a while ago, and it looked very much like the one she made, can anyone help/

Anyone use a steam press for ironing?
Hi all I seem to have bags full of ironing where-ever I look! I've got a steam generator but still find it takes ages and is boring. Anyway I've seen those steam presses and wonder if they are any good? The blurb says you can do a cotton top in seconds because it only needs two presses... thats enough to sell it to me lol!…

Cream won't whip? Why?
Has anyone ever had this problem? I'm trying to make a dessert that needs to be ready in the next hour but my cream won't whip! I whip cream quite often - most of the time by hand. Anyway, it wasn't thickening up so I put it on the stand mixer to whisk but still nothing's happening. Could it be a bad batch? It's whipping…

HM Garlic pizza bread
I tried making some homemade garlic pizza bread yesterday, but the base was a little bit undercooked (the edges were fine). My tribe devoured the lot, but I was hoping for some tips on how to perfect it as this was a dry run before I make some for a dinner party tomorrow with the remaining flour. I don't have a breadmaker…
