Any OCD cleaners out there?
I’ve bought a table and 4 chairs and I’m in the garden now cleaning them. This is one of the chairs - Any ideas how I can get the seat part clean? I’ve brushed it off and hoovered it but I’d like it clean clean if possible. They’ve all come from a charity shop furniture warehouse type place so god knows what’s in there :/

Spray foam insulation removal - consumer rights query
Hi, I am a newbie feeling outraged/baffled by the treatment of a
confused/upset/very worried friend by a spray foam installation company and
would really appreciate advice if possible. In 2019 she arranged Home Logic to treat her loft with spray foam,
all was fine. Or so we thought. Last Monday 08th April she received a…

VAT on extension
My understanding is that builders source materials VAT-free. Does this mean that when it comes to paying for the extension we would need to pay 20% on the total bill or just the work excluding materials? I also read that certain materials might have reduced VAT such as insulation, how would we go about about getting the…

Party wall agreement
Hi we have served a party wall agreement to our neighbour to build an extension against the fence of the boundary. We stated and intended start date of 2 months. We bought our house last year and have had a lot of things done so far such as full re-wire, new garage roof and full roof replaced, whilst the neighbours had theirs done. Splitting axe (axe head)
Only recently learned that an axe was not an axe, which really shouldn't have surprised me but there you go. Turns out I've been using a felling axe to work my way through logs so I went & bought a splitting axe, or rather a 'splitting maul' as it's listed. When it came it was different to any axe I'd ever used previously…

Openreach delays for FFTP
Hello, We are currently stuck in the middle of a battle to get FFTC installed at our [rented] home. We are moving away from Virgin Media after 10+ years due to their costs, and going with EE FFTP.... Everything was going fine until installation day where it was discovered by Openreach engineers that a tiny less than 1ft…

Best thing behind shower panels
So I'm putting shower panels in the bathroom, but the wall behind isn't nice - ie it is uneven. There are tiles on part of it and not on the other part, on one small section I tried to remove the tiles, but this makes things worse as it seems the tiles have not been tiled onto the smooth wall, rather the top half has been…

Patio upgrade
We are not a big fan of the paving stones (some are broken with pieces missing) so was thinking about replacing them - should be an interesting summer project! Wondered if the current paving are a bit too high in respect to the kitchen door step? I do not know where the DPC is (it is a 1930-1940s semi solid wall house) and…

Land Registry Right to Light
I’ve been going round in circles with my local council over the last year regarding 5 lime trees that surround our property. As well as year round mess, the trees (throughout Summer and part of autumn) cast significant shade on our property - enough that during the day we have to have lights on inside. The council are…

New kitchen quote query
I had a quote to redo my kitchen, knock through to my dining room and put up a small utility area in the kitchen. I trusted the builder and I liked him. My friend also had her kitchen done and suggested I also get a quote from her builder who is a friend of hers. I had them both round and the second builder didn’t get back…

Kitchen plinth led wiring help
Silly question alert. I plan to fit only 4 leds to my kitchen plinth. How do they power up? I can only find instructions that lead up to the transformer wiring? Do you just add a 3 pin plug onto the end of the transformer then into a standard plug socket? Thanks

Wall ties and underpinning
When we moved into our house we knew we had wall ties when the roof was updated. A structural engineer also reported that movement was historical and nothing since. I'm now wondering whether it was underpinned as the engineer and L3 surveyor never said anything. Do these things always go hand in hand?

Can anyone answer a question re leaking roofing felt on a new roof being installed???
So we are having a new roof on our semi detached house and they started today. They have put new roofing felt on two sides and already put tiles on one side which is great. However we had a thunderstorm today after they left so i checked in the attic ( which is loft boarded so i could have a good look) and where there is…
