Saving funds to invest later
Hi, I have some money that I intend to invest within the next six months. In the meantime I'd like to deposit the funds in some sort of savings account. What sort of account would provide the best rate of interest, net of tax. Thanks

Where to sell a Rolex watch?
Sorry if this is the wrong forum, but I can't think where else to put it. Mods please move delete as appropriate. I've been left a gold coloured ladies Rolex Watch. It belonged to my MIL. There are no hallmarks, in fact it says stainless steel. So, I'm presuming gold plate. It says 'Oyster Perpetual' under the Rolex name.…

Aviva - No-one asked me!
Just noticed in the paper that Aviva and Friends Provident shareholders have approved the merger... I have a small chunk of Aviva shares, held through H-L, and nobody asked me my thoughts. (Though I don't think I hold enough to be influential. (Joke, btw) As a general rule, shouldn't H-L have asked me to vote, or Aviva? I…

Deposit period on ISA moving to new year's allowance
I just phoned Coventry for their 2.25% ISA asking about the ability to deposit additional funds into the new year, and the lady said I can only do that in this year. However, reading their "Additional information", it states: I understand "open to new investors" means effectively this tax year as it will be closed for new…

With Profits investments
Hi, I'm sure I've read over the last few years that With Profits investments are no good. 15 years ago I took out a policy with Sun Life. One of those where you get a free Parker pen for asking for more details and a free luggage set when you take out a policy. The sort of thing that Carol Smilie used to advertise. They…

Best stock screener? (with export to excel function)
Hello, Just wondering what everyone uses to screen their stocks? If there is one which can export to excel so I can sort things by market cap, growth rates, net assets, PEG etc all at once that would be good. I have access to datastream, bloomberg terminal etc at work but ideally I want something i can use at home!

CTF ponderings - ISA / S&S ISA etc
Come 6th April I'm wondering about switching my daughter's CTF to a cash ISA or S&S ISA. DD will be 8 1/2 years old, so I think less than 10 years to run on junior ISA products. (Although a few do seem to go on later - Halifax cash JISA for instance). Because of the relatively limited time period, do you think it would be…

Paying tax on investments outside an ISA
Hi Everyone, I have maxed out the £15,000 ISA allowance for this tax year now and still have quite a bit of cash I want to invest/investments to make in some fidelity funds. St James's Place
I accepted VR from my job in July 2010 and went on a pre-retirement course just before leaving - one of the speakers was a financial advisor and all the participants were offered a free private consultation. I accepted this and subsequently invested most of my savings on their advice. The Company was Berkeley St James Ltd…

Buying Ex DIvidend shares
I am about to purchase some shares but on buying it stated "please be aware these shares are Ex Dividend" I presume these means I will not be entitled to the imminent dividend payout of these shares but will however be entitled to future dividends? I am purchasing these shares as I belive the company is a sound long term…
