re-using regular batteries and disposable razors
Have just seen in a catalogue a couple of possible eco-friendly ideas. One is a charger to recharge regular ('non-rechargable') batteries. (Yes I know you'll say why not just use rechargables, but some items specifically say not to use that type of battery). The other is a sharpener that allegedly sharpens 'disposable'…

Cat Poo Wormery
Has anyone used one of these? I am thinking of getting one for my two cats who are mainly housebound. They are too old to catch much now (although obviously no doubt mess with stuff that is already dead when presented with the opportunity!) and are regularly wormed. They have a litter tray into which I am gradually…

Home Recycling bins
Hi Does anybody know where I can buy a reasonably priced set of recycling bins to use at home ? I'm looking for 2 or 3 crates to use (outside) for plastics & glass, as I already have a council provided bin for paper. The ones I've seen so far aren't particularly cheap so I would welcome any suggestions. Thanks

Arriva Trains
Is it me and my lack of knowledge of how trains work or is this plain wrong? I was at a large train station today, on the opposite platform a two carriage diesel train pulled in. The passengers and crew got off, and there sat the train, burbling away and the engine spewing out CO2 and fumes. Now I thought OK, it will go in…

Electric lightbulbs
now we have the new onesI am finding that because I know they use less elec than the old types and because they are dim when first lit, that I am putting on more lights than before. At the moment I have 6 bulbs lit in my sitting room where as before it was 2 bulbs, 4 occasionally. Anyone else find this:confused:

Clay Ovens
In early May of this year I constructed a clay oven. It was small by comparison to the ones I had seen used in Rhodes several years ago, but nevertheless suited our needs perfectly. I narrowed down my build options from the variety of examples I had read about during my web searching. finally opting for the type that would…

Shops that leave their lights on all night! Grrrr - do your bit
I have noticed that some companies (for example 02 stores) leave their monitors on all night every night. I have just written to them pointing out there (lack of) efforts to be green. I will let you know their reply if I get one. Perhaps you guys would consider doing the same to either 02 or any other such (stupid)…

National zero waste week
I know some of you have written about reducing your waste in the past. Well next week it's National zero waste week. Last year the site did a huge pledge and win competition, but this year things are low key with a 'call to action'. If you feel inspired, why not join in by committing to make one change to the amount of…

Organic or local meat
I have a choice to buy either locally produced/slaughtered free range meat from a butchers or organic meat from a supermarket. I really want to buy organic for lots of reasons, but prefer buying locally reared and slaughterd meat from a butcher. I don't want price to be the only deciding factor, so what do others do with…

I'm determined not to waist money on the electricity this winter, I have my hot water bottle, throw and thick socks at the ready but at night I usually have 1 little lamp on and the TV (not a fan of the dark) and I want to see if I can get a wind up lamp to replace the little lamp when its just me knocking around the…

Home delivery - eco friendly?
Hi - first post, been browsing for a bit. How does it compare getting a delivery from a supermarket to going to the supermarket yourself? I have been thinking that the fuel used by the delivery vans is going to be more efficiently used than me going there by car. Is this right? Local shops are okay if you like white bread,…

Disposal of sun tan lotion packaging
Have had a major declutter and come across numerous half used bottles of suntan lotion. They are definately not this years, so would not want to use them as don't think they'd offer any protection. What is the most 'green' way to dispose of these????? Our local recycling collection like bottles to be washed out first, but…
