Connaught-Goodwill Question
In light of events at Connaught, I was wondering if anyone can explain what exactly goodwill is. My understanding so far is that it ONLY appears on the acquiring company’s Balance sheet. What it paid over the net assets of the target company. However, how about the earnings multiply you normally put on a business, say 5x.…

ING - FREE £20 for Opening an Account with £1.00
Expires 31/07/10 Found this in the Grabbits Forum and thought it has relevance here for those who like to make easy money, though you certainley wouldn't want to deposit and leave much here as there are better rates available elsewhere. http://www.ingdirect.co.uk/feelgood/ Thanks to Funnyguy for originally posting

Anyone got any views on Aldermore? I had never heard of them until I used a comparison site. Easy to open? Safe place to deposit money? Any issues on maturity if anyone has reached that stage yet? Thank you.

Santander buys 318 RBS branches
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-10862690 Can't see a thread on this, apologies if there is one. Just wondering whether this affects people with savings in both camps, i.e. if the total exceeds £50K. I'm assuming not, as presumably RBS still hold savings separately from branch control, but just thought I'd check.

Metlife
Anyone know if they are a safe bet to put some savings into as I'm considering it? They say they guarentee so if shares go down you don't lose your original investment. Then have the option to lock in after a year. Anyone had any experience of them? Cheers
