Purchased a car, MOT was passed same day but may not be properly done
Hi I purchased a 15 reg Ford Fiesta car on Fri and it had failed MOT on CV ball joint the day before, so I assume it was repaired, and passed on the day I bought it. I didn't check it much mechanically or check lights as I thought an MOT pass from that day would have looked at all issues. Test drove it and it seemed fine.…

ULEZ - need to buy a second hand car. Should I buy petrol to future proof against any future changes
Is petrol a safer bet than diesel to future proof against future tightening of the rules? I'd like to buy a car that will last about 10 years. I'm looking at a petrol Mondeo/insignia, 1.4/1.5 litre engine. We need a fairly large car as we are quite tall and need decent legroom in the back. Thanks

Second hand car dealers - advisability of haggling?
I've been told that the second hand market is "hot" at the moment and dealers are actually more likely to raise existing prices rather than engage in any haggling with would-be purchasers. Any comments on this, please? Is that a correct take on things?

Leasing an electric car through salary sacrifice
I've gone down a bit of a rabbit hole today, looking at schemes which allow you to lease an electric car through salary sacrifice. Just wondering if anyone has done this, or aware of anyone who has. I'm looking to hear from people who don't personally promote these schemes basically. I already salary sacrifice my pension…

I've just had a call from my wife saying a Sainsbury's delivery van has run into the back of her and seriously damaged the car. It appears she is shaken but appears to be OK. The driver has completed an accident report sheet and given her a copy. She has taken photographs of the damage and the scene. The driver said…

Pothole claims - council responsibilities
Hi forumites, I’m writing on behalf of my stepdaughter. The roads in her town are pretty awful and repairs have been very slow in being carried out. Driving is therefore hazardous at times. About three weeks ago, on a busy road at night, she hit a pothole causing several hundred pounds worth of damage. My stepdaughter is…

Question about alloy damage on a leased car.
I've currently got a leased car, due to go back the middle of next year, and i've got some damage on two of the alloys. Annoyingly i'm pretty sure the damage was on the car when i got it, as i've never curbed a wheel before, there's no damage to the tyres, and i've been being exceptionally careful with it, knowing that i'd…

D1 entitlement with licence renewal over 70
I'll be 70 in a couple of months and have renewed my driving licence accordingly. I'm retired, but still doing p/t work for my old employer, some of which involves driving a 16-seat minibus. I've decided not to renew the D1 category and my new licence does not have it. DVLA instruction is to cut in half and return the old…

Traffic Offence Report - Parked on a road with middle double white lines
Came back to my car today and found a pink traffic offence report on the window. I didn't realise but I was parked in an area where there are double solid white lines in the middle of the road. Help sorting my car finance mistake
Hello I've made a very bad financial decision and I don't think there is a way to fix it but thought I'd see if anyone had any ideas! I used to own a small car outright, then we got a large breed puppy, so I went to a dealer to try and part exchange for a car with a larger boot. I got talked into a PCP contract for £200…

Selling an old (but Ulez compliant!) car
Hey guys, My folks are trying to sell their old car (a second one, not main one). I'm trying to find out what the easiest way is of doing this, least hassle being the priority. Essentially they're both 80+ and if the chosen method means a few hundred quid less than something else then so be it. It's a 17 year old petrol VW…
