£10k to invest for new baby
Thanks to an exceedingly generous Grandparent, when my first child enters the world next month I will have £10k to invest on its behalf. I want to invest it for the long-term (for at least 18 years). I don't expect that we will be in a position to add to this fund over the next few years. I'd be grateful for any thoughts…

Do IFAs take their own advice?
Why do IFA's work or even exist, surely if they took their own advice the could design a plan to provide all of their income, once of course they had created the capital they needed. They can't be doing it as a service to us ill-informed masses because their fees are so high. Just a thought for dismal Saturday afternoon

Confusion about H2B Cash ISA / S&S ISA Limits
Hi All I have some confusion about ISA's and limits (i.e. paying into only one Cash ISA a year), and what that means for where I can store money. TBH about saving accounts in general. I've historically had an instant access cash ISA with my current account (which I was paying into monthly). This year, I opened up a H2B…

My inheritance of £50k is sitting in my current account at the mo...I've read that some banks offer 3% interest on £20k....can I put eg. £20k into Santander @3%...£20k into Halifax @ 3% and £10k into Nationwide @ 5% ? These rates if it's doable would give me around £141 a month interest to spend on whiskey and golf :) ! Or…

Tracing missing funds
Asking this on behalf of a friend. To cut a long story short - in August he sold £10k worth of USA via his broker TD Waterhouse (I think). He had held these shares with them since 2012 when working in the States. About 2-weeks later the money showed up on his Barclays account in the UK. 6-weeks ago he sold £50k worth of…

Independent Financial Advisors - all a bunch of con artists?
For health reasons I'm presently quite poor, but I've found the golden ticket! I'm about to be worth half a million quid! All that had to happen for me to qualify was for both of my parents to die within a week of each other! Happy days! Cheer for me! No. Really. Don't. Unaccustomed as I am to this level of wealth, I feel…
