Soap Flakes in Washing Machine?
I have just picked up a box of soap flakes for general cleaning. I had been planning to put some in the soap tray in the washing machine with vinegar in the fabric conditioner tray. I realise there are some recipes around for laundry using borax, soda crystals etc, but I wasn't planning on adding anything else to the…

Blanket to Duffle Coat?
I've managed to inherit 2 pure wool blankets today - which although lovely are no use on our beds (duvets and quilts or microfibre blankets) So I was thinking - what I REALLY need is a warm winter coat for DS2 who is three years old. If I hot wash these blankets to shrink/felt them and run a dye through them - I have 2…

Home made door stop
We've finally finished the nursery for our little baby boy who is due in April. The door has a tendancy to slam shut and as there is not enough gap under the door for a wedge I thought I'd try my hand at making a door stop. I plan to convert this cuddly chicken by removing the stuffing and refilling him with something…

Very un-shiny taps :(
Anyone have any advice on how I can make my old, very un-shiny, pretty manky bathroom taps lovely and shiny again? Preferably with something not too toxic! But not sure if there's anything non-chemical up to the job! Any suggestions gratefully received :)

Reasonable Food Budget for 1
Hi y'all, I'm looking for advice on what could be a reasonable food budget for me. I think I've been spending around £120 per month on food for just me . I've heard the 50p per person per meal, but I have absolutely no idea how you would get costs down that much! There are a few hindrances to my ability to cook and…

Removing permanent marker pen from a NEW jacket..
Hi I bought a lovely jacket recently, and I noticed a permanent ink mark on it (wasn't there when I bought it), put it in the washing machine and it has barely made any difference! I cannot bleach it as it is a red coat and the material is 100% cotton, can anyone give me any ideas on how I can get rid of the stain, as I…
