70th birthday through the post
It's my mum's 70th in a few weeks, and I'm struggling for ideas on what to do for it! Not only has everything I was planning (a weekend away, the ballet) been cancelled but I live in a different city, and thanks to lockdown restrictions I won't be able to see her for it - I also don't drive and work in quite a high risk…

Halloween Costume Ideas
Hi! Its coming up to Halloween and I am looking for a costume. I really have no idea what to go as. I have been looking round all the halloween sites, but think i would prefer something I can make myself. Anyway, I have one idea which I kinda like, its the cheerleader from heroes. So its simple to make and all bloodied…

Family Tree & Military Records
I am working on a family tree as a gift and have come across someone who I think may have died in the first world war (I have only been told they died young) as they were about that age and there is no death record at all for them in Scotland. I can only see subscription services that seem quite expensive for me to check a…

Making clay Christmas decorations?
I posted in crafting about where is the cheapest place for Fimo but then thought actually this might be a better section to ask in. For those who make Christmas tree decorations out of some kind of clay what do you use? I used Fimo today but it’s probably going to work out at £1.50+ per a gingerbread man and I wanted to be…

Husband's 70th...ideas please!!
Husband will turn 70 in late October, we are both retired so at home all day, just the two of us, and his birthday falls on a Monday. We have adult kids and grandkids who live nearby and they will arrange a family meal in the evening as my husband is definitely not a party animal! I need ideas what to do for him in the…

Personalised Gifts - Recommendations?
Hi all, I have a bunch of birthdays coming up (sister, mum and step-mum) and I thought that personalised photo bags/wallets would go down well with them all! This is the kind of thing I'm talking about: http://www.inkies.co.uk/Photo_bags.htm I was wondering if any of you gift experts out there could recommend a website /…

Hotel gone into bankruptcy
My son and his friend have put a £300 deposit down to stay at the Signature Living Hotel in Liverpool for their 21st Birthday. After hearing the chain has gone into administration they now can’t get hold of anyone at the hotel. Does this mean they have lost all their money?

Anyone use cardyard?
Sorry if this is the wrong area to post this but has anyone used cardyard? its a site where you can sell and buy gift cards (the spawn of Satan IMO) you can buy and sell for less than the face value so if you wanted to buy something at argos, you can buy a £30 gift card for say £27 or you can sell an unwanted gift card…

80th birthday present for Dad
My Dad turns 80 this month and I need inspiration for a present he would appreciate. Sadly my mother passed away last June so my Dad has been lost without her since. He's not as able as he used to be so he mainly spends his days reading and watching tv, only going out for the newspaper or groceries. He's never been one for…

Collecting money
Hi, I am wanting to set up an online collection for someone who is retiring in a few weeks. I want something secure that colleagues can access easily and not have to sign up for and where we can spend the money anywhere and withdraw to give her anything remaining. I have no idea where to start. Thanks in advance 😊

Prom Dress
morning, we have paid a deposit of over £200 for a prom dress. However due to COVID19 school proms will more than likely not take place. The school has said that it may have a prom but only when it is safe. It could be December. The dress we are getting has not been altered nor made to measure or anything like that. It is…

60th meal cancelled
At the beginning of March we booked a meal in a hotel in Huddersfield to celebrate my 60th on 20th June. We paid £150 deposit which was non-refundable but we could change the date, if necessary. Obviously the hotel was not open on 20th June and we asked for a refund but they are still saying it's non-refundable and we can…

Prom dress payment
HI This is my first post and I am looking for some advice. Our daughter was due to have her prom this year but it has understandably been cancelled. We ordered her dress through a local shop last October and paid the deposit. Now that the prom has been cancelled we have contacted the shop who have said that the full…

Prom cancelled
Hi My daughter has had her leavers prom cancelled due to the Coronavirus pandemic. I have paid for her prom dress in full from a specialist bridal/prom dress shop. I rang the shop to tell them that her prom had been cancelled and to ask where that leaves us in terms of the dress and getting any money back. The lady on the…
