What to do with PPI funds?
Hi all, so I am rebuilding my life after a split a few years ago, basically I am off the housing ladder and doing my best to save a deposit. I have saved 10k and have a PPI claim paying out 10K just confirmed, I think it is going to take me 2 or 3 years to get the size of deposit I need for a decent mortgage. Where should…

Hello, First time poster here having seen so much great advice on this site. I am looking at how to make best use of the Child Trust Fund we have for our son (born before Junior ISAs). We currently have a non-stakeholder fund, investing in one particular fund. However, we are paying 5% initial charges on purchasing the…

IF - Why new customers only?
I have some savings with Intelligent Finance at a pretty good rate of 2.49%, although this is dropping to 1.8% in February. However, I've noticed that all the IF savings accounts are now for existing customers only. Does anyone know why? Are these accounts now likely to become dormant forgotten about accounts? Thanks.

Interest rates so low - don't bother saving!
I really don't understand the mindset of people who say this, just read some comments in an article in the daily mail. The article was saying that average monthly savings have risen to approx £90 per month. One of the commentators said it was not worth saving as rates were so low. I offset so I save interest rather than…

Company balance sheets
Hi, Can someone tell me where I'd need to go to view the public balance sheets of UK listed companies? I know that US law requires US listed companies to publish balance sheets and a lot of larger companies have them on their corporate website, but I don't know about UK companies. Please advise. Thanks

Much higher interest for foreign savers at british banks?
I was in HSBC earlier and they were talking to an Italian man about savings. I was depositing money into my savings account with some paltry interest rate when I overheard them say to the man that as he was an Italian he could get a much higher rate of 6% on an instant access savings account. If you hold a foreign passport…

Beware Llloyds TSB current account fee waiver
We were recently cold-called by our Lloyds TSB branch suggesting that we upgrade our Premier Account to Premier Vantage, because it provides a higher interest rate. When I asked what the catch was they said the only impact was more interest. However when we got our next statement there was a new £25 monthly fee! It turns…

Account with reasonable accessibility?
I'm shortly going to be coming into some money (inheritance) and I'm trying to work out where might be the best place to put it, where it's reasonably accessible - given that (a) I may lose my job any minute and might need ready access, and (b) if my job by some miracle becomes secure I might need it for property. I…

Instant access savings accounts....
Just looked at my account and £1.49 interest for £10k balance does not seem attractive, I have had a search around on the main players and other than ING, it seems the going rate, don't want to chance peer to peer. Am I at a lost cause for some half decent instant access savings?
