Inspire me for Christmas Eve?
For those that don’t have a big family meal on Christmas Eve, what are you planning to eat. I’m thinking something lighter before the blow out of the next couple of days, but I’m bored with everything I normally cook and salad doesn’t appeal in winter. Hit me with your suggestions.

Weekly Flylady Thread 18 December 2023
What is FLYLADY? Well, it's our version of the US flylady idea - but we work on the principle that housework is not fun, it's boring, can be time-consuming, is often thankless but, unfortunately, necessary. It's here on Old Style to provide the support we all need and to make the whole task easier and quicker. We also…

How to heat shop bought Christmas pudding in slow cooker
I'm hoping to heat our shop bought Christmas pudding in the slow cooker tomorrow, to free up hob space for other things. For those that regularly heat shop bought Christmas puddings in the slow cooker, how long do you heat them for, and on what setting (low, medium or high)?

My Personal Diary: Thrifting to a better bank balance (longer term goals)
Hello all, this is more of a personal diary for me, but I welcome any ideas and tips. About 10 years ago I was very thrifty, I wanted to be a single homeowner and after years of saving, managing budgets, etc, I managed to do this. Now I live with my partner and everything I did like 10 years ago has gone out of the window…

It's getting tough out there. Feeling the pinch?
It suddenly feels that the everyday things in life are getting very expensive...it's costing a small fortune to live a no-frills existence these days. What have you had to think twice about buying / reduce consumption of / or cut out altogether?

Can you freeze bought custard?
Friend is dropping me off some shop bought custard on last date. Has anyone tried freezing this for later use? Wondering if it separated I could bring it back with the blender? Will it lose thickness?

Any coffee grinder recommendations?
Looking for an electric coffee grinder for the kitchen which could also mill the occasional batch of herbs/spices. Can anyone suggest from experience a reasonably priced model which hasn't packed up just after the warranty expiry?

Should I Buy a Food Processor?
I have some gift card money and I am thinking of buying a food processor. I have never had one before. I am disabled and standing for long periods to cook is difficult, so I thought maybe a food processor would speed things up and allow me to cook more fresh and healthy food, cheaply and quickly, as I often buy ready…

First the expensive butter....
I noticed a month or two back that the 'premium' butters had reduced their pack size to 200g from 250g. Husband went to get lard yesterday to make pastry for mince pies. When he got back home the shopping was on the counter. I moved the lard and thought 'that feels light!'. I checked and Morrisons cheapo lard is now 200g!…
