Awful weather - typical Brits talk
Well it's been downright awful here in Somerset for the last couple of days with non-stop rain! Just wondering how committed you lovely peeps are... have you been put off by gardening when it's raining? Are you a shrinking violet or a hardy perennial? Just a light hearted thread ☔🌧️

Replacement for Strimmer
I need to replace a strimmer. I've always found replacing the cord very fiddly, so I've been thinking about getting one with replaceable plastic blades. I've been wondering how durable these are, and whether they are more trouble and expense than they worth. I need, for example, to cut grass against a wall, which my mower…

Rabbits in polytunnel, help needed please!
Hi, as in the title I have a problem with rabbits in my polytunnel. One, or maybe more, got in last year, they made a hole in the plastic at the side. This has now been repaired, and they can no longer get in there, unless they are moving and replacing two concrete breeze blocks. However now every time i go in there are…

Keeping hens and ducks chat.
As a hen and cockerel keeper myself I thought it would be interesting to ask what you name your hens and cockerels and also ask how many eggs you get per day. I know the egg laying changes when they moult but just thought it would be interesting to see how many you get. I have hens that are named Bluebell, Muesli,…

Portuguese Laurel questions
Question 1: I put 10 Portuguese Laurels into 10 separate 60cm x 60cm fibreglass cubed pots as my garden used to flood, so I wanted the hedges to be raised up away from any potential flood water. Is it ok to keep Portuguese Laurels in these pots permanently? I aim to keep the hedges at around 6 foot tall. Also, is the…

autumn flowering bulbs
I was thinking as I have a grass out the front that I will just randomly plant bulbs in the grass so they come up and provide a splash of colour during the darker days of autumn/winter. They will need to survive being mowed over in spring and flower again that autumn. I was thinking crocus's but not sure what else. Thanks

Fence paint.
My garden fences were painted last year but already in some places it's washed off. Is there an additive that can be used in water based paint to make it more hardy?

What is used for rootstock for greengage?
My deceased greengage threw up a sucker from its roots begore its demise. I left it in after removing the tree and it's a pretty looking thing, shot out little leaves earlier than anything else. Trying to find out what it might be I just get adverts for trees and size types. Does anyone know what plant this might be? I…

Soil for flower beds
Hi - this might be a daft question sorry in our new place there is a large space for flower beds on the side of the garden. At the moment they are empty and filled with rubbish. I am wanting to plant some perennial flower, some conifers for privacy and also maybe a fruit and veg patch. What kind of soil do I need. The area…

Growing Euonymus alatus in container
I was very taken by the brilliant colours of a Euonymus altus that I saw last October (see picture below), and having come across one while browsing in a garden centre today I made the snap decision to buy it. I could find a place to plant it in the garden but I'd quite like to be able to take it with me should I move…

Weed identification help
Hello all, Don't know if this is the right forum but here goes anyway. We moved into our new flat last November which had a new lawn laid. This month, some weeds have sprung up in the grass and are covering a lot of it. Google hasn't really identified it and worried it might be Japanese Knotweed. Google pics don't look…

Moving wisteria plants...?
We've just signed the lease on a half-allotment plot just up the road from our home; we have a 110m² plot on a site on the other side of town, which we'll be giving up later on this year as the smaller plot will be much easier to manage; I can be there in under a minute and barrow heavy stuff up there rather than needing…
