Which methods can I use to pay tax due?

Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere, couldn't find the answer when I searched.

Up until now I've been quite stubborn in wanting to file my tax return on paper. This year the tax office didn't send me a return through the post, but sent a letter trying to get me to file online.

I've had a look at their demo today, I'm still in two minds, but may move to online. What I'd really like to know is regarding me making my payments. At the moment they send me a bill before payment's due in July and January, and I pay it at my local bank.
If I file online, does the whole thing become online? Would I get the payment requests by email instead? And would I be expected to pay online, or would I still have an option to go to my bank?
I only use one credit card online, to reduce my financial exposure, and don't want to be putting my bank details on there.
How do you all pay?

Suspended for misconduct- HELP NEEDED

Hi guys,

Been pretty upset today as found out i'm suspended from work for 'misconduct'. I'll explain..I'm a youth mentor for a university and work mainly with FE Students.

Basically i started the job in September 2012 and had all the relevant training provided by the university. As a youth mentor I have to teach students about various educational topics every month such as sti's etc and monitor/supervise students in the student common room..as part of the university's interest in students they ask students to fill in feedback forms at the end of each educational topic teaching session.

In December 2012 there was some comments left in scribbly writing which made racist remarks to myself as a tutor stuff like 'why don't we have a english tutor etc'. I didn't actually see these comments but my manager did. My manager rung me at the time and asked me to call him. I called him and he told me that he had seen the comments and that i should ignore them as the majority of students are white and its ignorance, but he didn't want me to feel the matter was being ignored so he would have a meeting with all students and get the police to come in to talk about racism. He did all of this and no one admitted they wrote the comments. He then asked me if i wanted to file a police report or what. I told him that I didn't as I wasn't bothered about it and they're only college kids mainly 16 so i put it down to ignorance.

In March 2013 this year we've had two new staff members as two left who work as youth mentors next to me. Basically since then staff members have been getting odd texts which appear to be from another staff member but aren't saying they've been sacked etc. I was also victim to this and almost fell for it, luckily our work noticed and text us all so I realised. My work never found out who was doing it but had a meeting advising everyone to be careful and as a result they moved all staff files from a public area to a secure area.

Today I got called into a meeting all of a sudden at work with the head of youth mentoring and head of staff. They asked me to recall the racism incident in December and pulled out the feedback forms which has racist comments on them. They then pulled out feedback forms I had signed as part of my contract and another's mentors feedback form which had been modified and extra words added on it. They told me that all 3 pieces of documents looked like they were my writing (scribbly) and could I explain this.
i told them that I was extremely offended that they would imply I had been modifying documents and more importantly the pens we all use to write with are the same and shared between students and ourselves because we have limited supplies and I had not been writing or modifying anything and had no reason too. Furthermore the way of the writing ie: the way the a's and g's were wrote on the racism form seemed totally different to mine. They noted this and I told them just because someone has scribbly writing and mine is also does not mean that this is the same person. They then said to me on that basis I wrote '&' on a sheet and the last mentor's work that had been modified also had an '&' on.
So they put to me that no racism ever happened, I was lieing and secretly unhappy with my job and decided to falisify feedback documents, feedback sheets and was so dumb I used the same pen, same writing style and letters and words. They then ever said that next year my re-application for this job should be suggested that 'it won't go to the same person'.
To be honest I was pretty upset as I haven't done the above things and they told me that they have sought advice from their 'HR lawyer in the university' and that she hasn't actually seen the documents but her advice is to suspend me. I will be paid for days i worked that's it.

I feel this is really unfair espically when the feedback forms are left in a open environment on a desk where students can get them or staff and i did put this to them. However i feel i've been unfairly treated here espically suggesting and implying that I won't get the job next year if I re-apply.

I just wondered what can I do? what are my rights? have they acted fairly? Could i ask that if they want to speak to me further that I have a lawyer there?

If anyone could let me know that would be fantastic as at the end of the whole meeting I was pretty upset as i really enjoy teaching these children and giving something back..

I am purchasing a flat. My mortgage application with the lender went through very quickly, credit check and valuation all done within a week.

After an environmental search carried out by my solicitors, the property has been flagged up to be within 25m meters of contaminated land. The lender was notified nearly 4 weeks ago however I've still no reply as to what will happen.

Anybody had any experience in this?
What are the potential outcomes?

My solicitor and mortgage broker are continually chasing but it has proved to be quite a frustrating few weeks. To add the seller needs to start looking for rental accomodation pretty soon as they are relocating. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hello,

I was wondering how much people save for their childrens future?

at the moment I'm putting away £20 a month for each of my children and I have done since they were born. 1 is in a Child Trust Fund, the other a Junior ISA. They both earn roughly the same interest. This amount per month put into their savings will increase as my salary (hoepfully) increases over the years.

My worry with that is, by the time they are actually able to access the money, will the predicted amount be worth alot less then than it is now? Based on the amount saved so far and paying £20 a month until they reach 18, they'll have £4000.00

the interest rates are pretty poor.

Hi

I made a complaint to Ofgem in January this year regarding miss selling in my department. The actual incidents I was referring to took place in August last year. The reason for the delay was that I didn't have proof of the malpractice taking place. I was able to obtain a few examples that are in breach of Ofgem regulations and forwarded them on. After initial interest and a statement that the managers of the department were fully aware of the practices taking place. No investigation was carried out. The miss selling I was referring was equal if not bigger than SSE.

I was going through a disciplinary at the time of my disclosure to Ofgem and now have left the company. Would this be the reason why they have not done anything as my disclosure wasn't in 'good faith'?

Your comments would be appreciated

Please can someone help me?

In March we paid over the phone for a deposit for my son to go on an expedition to Africa next year via school.

My son has been told he cant return to school next year and my husband has been made redundant so therefore my son obviously cannot go as this trip is around £3.5k.

They are telling me that the deposit of £395 is non refundable, do I have any rights at all? The trip is not until Aug 2014 I told them in April this year which is more than enough notice I believe and this is unfair.

Thanks

Hi Everyone!
Me and a few friends are planning to go yo west Midlands safari park on Sunday. We noticed the club card vouchers for tescos today where you can exchange the points to get tickets for £4. But the only downside to this is that it takes 5 days to get delivered.

But is there any other way of getting cheap tickets to go to wmps?

Thanks in advance.

Two Potential Mortgages, Need to Decide!

We are currently considering two potential mortgages and just wondered what people thought of these and how could I calculate the two offers and see which is the best one. Both are for 80% LTV

* HSBC, fixed at 3.89% for 5 years then to 3.94% SVR, product fee of £599 however reduced to £399 if you take an advance account with them which is £12.50 a month, so doing this for a year then cancelling saves £45. Overall comparison is 4.1% APR

* Halifax, fixed at 4.39% for 5 years then to 3.99% SVR, product fee of £995. However they also pay the stamp duty which would be £2,400. Overall comparison is 4.4% APR

(This one is also available fee free, fixed at 4.59% for 5 years then to 3.99%)

I recently stopped working for an employer at the end of the tax year and was issued with my P45, which I passed to new employer. Old employer says they have no need to issue P60 for end of year? I realise it is exactly the same as information on P45 I have but should I still be entitled to a P60?
Thanx

First post here, so hi all!

So my situation is, my girlfriend has built up debts of about 15k spread over 4 credit cards over the last few years, and it's time to try and get it sorted. Having looked over this website i've tried a few things as advised with no joy so far.

I've checked out the rates on her cards, and she's basically paying £500 purely in interest, which obviously is wasted money every month. First thing i've told her to do is focus on the card with the worst rate and pay as much as possible extra each month off that one, but obviously it's going to take years and years before she gets anywhere going that path.

We tried going to her bank to get a loan, but they said her credit rating wasn't good enough so no joy there (although she's never missed a payment or anything like that). Then we tried, shifting the debts all to one of her current credit cards but as expected no joy there, or requesting a better rate which I also held out no hope for. We then tried the soft checking for loans as advised on here for the likes of zopa and nationwide but that's got us nowhere either.

So as far as i'm aware that's pretty much all the options I can see exhausted. The ridiculous thing is she can afford to pay back about £600-£650 per month, but no ones willing to to take her up.

So now i'm considering applying for the loan myself because i'd imagine my rating is fairly good, the only thing that might go against me is a lower salary. Obviously my girlfriend will be giving me the money so in effect my finances don't come into it, but I realise that for a loan application they obviously will. So really i'm wondering if I can include this £600 pound that will be going through me as additional income, or failing that are there any other options anyone can think of that I might not have considered.

Thanks in advance for any help

Tyrion and Aryas problems with housing.

From the universal credit guidance.

---Quote---
Tyrion rents a 2 bedroom flat, his rental payments are £400.00 a month. Prior to his claim to UC he was 6 months behind with his rental payments. His landlord takes him to court and his rent is adjusted to £420.00 a month. His housing costs element of UC will be calculated on his original rental payments of £400.00.

Arya has a mortgage on her two bedroom terraced house. The mortgage secured on the property is £72,000.00. Arya has defaulted on 5 mortgage payments, a total of £2,500, and the lender has added those arrears to her outstanding mortgage. When information is gathered to make the HCE calculation, this shows the outstanding loan secured on her home is £74,000. Her HCE for UC will be calculated on the
£74,500 balance.

I've been researching whether house builders are allowed to offer incentives if you're using the help to buy scheme so if they claim they can't as some other posters have stated i'll have an idea whether it's the case or not.

I've had a poke around on the intermediary sire for halifax and this is what i found....

" Builder cash incentives include but are not limited to deposit contributions, cash-backs, contribution to legal fees/stamp duty, mortgage subsidies.

Cash incentives for shared equity applications are acceptable provided the total value of the loan plus incentive together does not exceed 95% of the value of the equity share being purchased."

So does that mean offers to pay stamp duty or legal costs can only takes us up to 95% of our equity but additions like carpets, appliances, turf etc would not have to be included?

Friend paid for a widget from a business seller on e-bay.
Widget turns up looking like a cheap version of said widget and broken as well.

Friend would like to return widget to seller.

Question 1)
So that she doesnt have to pay postage is it better to return it as faulty or SNAD?

I was always under the impression that it was best to send the item back tracked (not POP) so that you can show delivery?

With POP you get the refund from RM and not the seller.

I guess both would work as you'd be getting your money back eventually.

Thanks in advance.
Having a brain fart day.

Hi
My laptop runs XP SP2 with no obvious problems.

I downloaded Kindle for laptop software.

I booted my laptop to Safe Mode and installed the software. I did not get any errors and a Kindle desktop icon was created.

When I double clicked on the Kindle icon nothing happened.

I uninstalled the Kindle software using the Uninstall program within the Amazon folder.

I manually deleted the remaining Amazon folder.

I then tried to boot my laptop. The Windows logo appeared briefly and very faintly but then the laptop shutdown. I tried again and the same thing happened.

I tried booting into Safe Mode again and then tried to restart Windows but had the same problem.

I have now restarted my laptop using Safe Boots 'Last known good configuration' and Windows started and all seems well. Phew!

This is where I am at the moment.

I am a little concerned about restarting my laptop in case it will not start with any chosen option.

What precautions can I take for when my laptop will not start in the way described?

Any ideas what could have happened to cause this problem?

Any ideas why the Kindle software will not run on my laptop?

Many thanks in advance for your advice.
Graham
