I have had a capital one secured card for 6 weeks now. I paid a £29 deposit and have a £200 credit limit.

I'm wondering if anyone else has had the same card with the same limit and how long it took before they got offered their first credit limit increase.

Thanks in advance

hi all. After ringing Barclaycard to see if they had a better product I could switch to to save some money I was told by the operator in a call centre in India that there was no such deal to be had so I am asking if anyone knows of a card I can transfer to that will save me some money and get rid of Barclaycard. I have 4500 on the balance and never miss a payment so surely a new card supplier would see that I am capable of keeping up with the account and if they can lower my interest through an interest free deal or even life of balance that would be benificial to both parties?

Tesco Credit Card vs Capital One Classic Extra

Just seen the new Capital One card mentioned in weekly email as an easy-to-get cashback card.

As someone who isn't eligible for the best cashback cards (good credit score but low income), I currently do all my spending on a Tesco Credit Card and convert the Clubcard points I get into rewards, (usually) tripling the value.

Excuse my lack of mathematical prowess, ... can anyone tell me which basically has the most value: the tesco rewards I currently earn, or the new 0.5% cashback Capital One credit card?

Thanks in advance

I'm 23 years old
Bank with Barclays
Earn £18000 a year (w/o overtime)
Noddle credit score of 3/5

Im looking to possibly get a credit card to pay my annual car insurance of £1070. If I pay monthly it works out around £1200 I think so a 0% card would be good no?

Would it be beneficial to me getting a credit card? Will I be accepted for a 0%? Should I take the alternative of borrowing from a relative, bearing in mind I'm still paying for a loan from them before..

I have read martins email about best cards to use abroad to avoid the fees, but I was wondering if there was also one that has a 0% for spending, say for 6- 12 months, as well as no charge for using abroad.

Cant seem to see a card with both?

I am a former Egg credit card customer, who following the sale of Egg creditcard by Citigroup to Barclays has now become a Barclaycard customer.

I wanted to add an additional card holder to my currently zero balanceaccount. I was told no in writing and then when I called up was told no becauseI am a former Egg customer.

I complained and was told some interesting facts about the current Barclaycardpolicy on responsible lending and the guy on the phone suggested maybe myfinances were in a state and that was why Barclaycard didn't want to let me addan additional card holder. My finances are not in a state but I did not arguethe point as by then something else was occurring to me.

There was no explicit mention of this possible outcome due to the change inownership result in a change from Egg to Barclaycard policy and the modellingbit is thought of as 'sensitive', meaning they won't tell me the differencesanyway.

Is it right that Barclaycard apparently told me nothing on this downside tobecoming one of their customers?

Hey Guys!

So a few years ago I opened a bank account with Yorkshire Bank and they give under-18s simple accounts with no kind of overdraft or anything. I turned 18 in January.

OK so the main problem is when they gave me the card the card type was maestro card. I want to change this to something like Visa or MasterCard (I know MC owns maestro) You see I do only shopping and many companies (in USA) do not support maestro its only supported really in UK. How can I change my card type to MC or Visa.

Will I be charged for changing it as well?

Thanks

I am getting married in the summer and although me and my partner have saved up for the wedding, we will need to borrow to pay for our honey moon.

After looking on Money Saving Expert i liked the idea of a 0% credit card (the Tesco one for 16 months looked ideal). We would easily be able to pay off the debt in that time and would be cheaper overall than getting a loan.

My problem is the outstanding payment for our honeymoon is £3700. I was hoping to use the credit card solution to pay for the lot but then realised about the credit limit.

My question is will I be able to get a card with a credit limit this high? I beleive I have a high credit rating (I have a lloyds credit card already with a £1500 limit - they have let me know recently my credit score is 4/5, however realise it may be different scoring for differnt companies).

My concern is that they will give me a low credit limit to begin with and I won't be able to increase the limit until after 6 months which is too late.

It is coming to that time of year for the wonderful Amex companion flight...the problem is I am £1k short of the spend required for the year. Does anyone have any superb ideas for spending the extra money needed without spending it!? For example paying council tax in advance etc rather than buying an unneeded treat!

Any suggestions much appreciated!

Hi,

I appreciate that this subject is pretty exhausted in this forum, but I just need some advice for getting a short term loan.

It seems my credit rating is satisfactory. But I can't seem to get credit? I've never missed payments and have paid off a loan without problems in the past, alongside car finance which is ongoing - I thought this would improve my rating...

I have recently moved out and have only been at my new address a short while, so will this affect my chances of getting anything for a long time? I registered on the electoral roll today as I understand this helps as well (and I should have done it anyway).

If I've applied for various credit in the past month, will it affect my chances even more? (there are 5 attempts on my experian report).

All me and my partner need is £1500. It's a small amount that we won't struggle to pay back but it seems to be impossible! Is it easier to get a credit card with a high interest rate in this situation? I know that's not the best idea, but we need this pretty sharpish.

So frustrating!!

Please help if you have any advice!

Because I am cancelling all these card my ratio of debt compared to my limits will increase over 35-40% will this have a negative impact on my score . I am also worried that I might not get a limit high enough on my new card do you think I should get some keep one of the cards?
About me, I have not missed a payment in the last 6 years on any of my current accounts, mortgage or credit cards.
I'm wondering if the financially savvy out there can help me with something. Is there any effect on your consumer right when using a credit card if the payment goes through moneybookers? I may not have worded that quite right but what I mean is do you still have the same kind of protection say, the company goes bust or the items aren't delivered. I'm looking at purchasing from a site that requests customers make payment with a moneybookers account for transactions over a certain value and I'm curious to know if it has positive, negative or no effect on your rights in the event of things going wrong.

Any help appreciated.

Hi again,

I just checked my credit report through my Experian account and was shocked to see that my rating has plummeted about 150 points in a month and is now only 'fair', down from 'v good'.

The major problem appears to be a 2 month late payment on my HSBC professional studies loan and an outstanding balance.

_However_, as far as I was aware this account was settled last month (balance indicating zero).

The last payment on the account was slightly odd though. For the last 8 years I've payed a fixed amount off the loan via direct debit. No problems. Apparently, due to calculation errors in interest rates etc. at the end of the fixed repayment period there was still an outstanding balance of about £400. Unfortunately, the direct debit agreement ended automatically at the end of the fixed period but this amount still remained. I received a phone call from the bank to point this out and we agreed to settle the balance in two £200 installments over two months. These have been made on time, as agreed, and the account is now settled in my mind.

Hello, I'm new!
Basically I have recently moved banks so don't have the best credit for that main reason. So I have a Capital One credit card, I just spend £30 a month on it and repay it in full, I'm in no financial difficulties so I don't 'need' one. Anyway, I had a letter from a company- cant think of the name- I think it was Vanquis, offering me a card.
So would it be best for my credit to take it, spend £30 on it, so I;m spending on both, pay off in full each month and it would boost my credit faster. Or would it look bad that I have 2 credit cards?
Thanks

Not sure where this would go but as it is relation to an old Barclays credit card we had I thought I would try here.

Today, in the mail I received a letter from McCall Door Step Recovery.

Pretty much saying that they have been instructed to carry out removal action in the next 24hours.

My wife contacted them and it appears it was about the Barclays CC that we did owe on about 3 years ago. The company that we were paying closed. Our payments were refunded to us and when we asked Barclays what had happened they said they had sold it on and was nothing to do with them.

McCall were ok with my wife (I was sleeping as I had just finished a night duty) and asked her if she could go to Lloyds and make a £20.00 payment. She did this. When she then contacted them again to inform them she was met with a torrent of abuse, rudeness and threats.

She then came to me in tears, so, I rung them and asked what they were doing. Met with the same rudeness (not for long), I then told them that I would not pay another penny unless I had written proof of what we owed, if any, and to whom. I also said that I do know about bailiffs and told them that they had to be a court appointed bailiff and as we were on an army camp that they had to be with at least to police officers. The guy then says the he can arrange that if I wanted !!!

So, I'd had enough by this time and said "Go for it, until I get a letter you get nothing". HE then swore at me and hung up !

So, (sorry about the life story) has anybody else had dealings with this company? I believe that they used to be called Carted Legal but changed name to avoid action against them. I have checked the consumeractiongroup website and they pretty much say avoid at all costs.

Help !! )o:

Hi everyone,

After getting some great advice from forum posters I thought I'd return the favour and share this with you all, it's probably common knowledge but it might help someone.

I recently applied online for the Halifax Clarity credit card and subsequently received a rejection letter a few days later. I was very annoyed by this and especially for the lack of information provided as to why I was refused the card. So I wrote a letter to Halifax and enclosed with it proof of income, a copy of my Experian credit report which is rated 'Good' and proof that I am on the electoral register at my current address.

I posted the letter last Monday and thought no more about it until yesterday I received a letter from Halifax informing me that they have re-considered my application and are now giving me the card, needless to say I'm very pleased since I mainly want this card for use abroad.

Obviously writing a letter and sending documentation is not a guarantee that you'll get the card second time round but there's definitely no harm in giving it a go since the initial search will be on your credit report anyway.

Hi guys,

I was wondering if anybody can offer me some advice.

I have two credit cards at the moment - A HSBC card at 23.9% with about £2200 on it, and a Barclaycard Platinum at 21.9% with about £4,700 on it. Total monthly minimum repayments currently at about £260.

The Barclaycard was originally taken out as a 0% balance transfer.

I've been looking at various options to reduce the monthly interst charges and get more payed off these cards. Ideally I'd like to consolidate onto a 0% balance transfer deal but this seems unlikely.

I tried recently for the Halifax 0% offer but was rejected (probably too optimistic!). I'm now paranoid about applying for other cards in case they also reject me and my credit rating goes seriously downhill.

My current credit rating appears 'good' according to experian but when I searched using moneysupermaket the other day all the suggested options (for which they thought I'd be accepted) had higher APR than I'm currently paying (34% ish).

Basically I just wanted to know if you think I'm currently on a good deal and should stick and just accept the payments or if you think there are better options out there?

Any advice would be really appreciated.

Cheers,

My credit history has not always been great, and I did have periods of missed and late payments on my MBNA credit card. After speaking with MBNA I placed a self-imposed suspension on my Credit card, not put in place by them but me. I have now cleared the entire balance from the card and contacted MBNA to have the suspension lifted and the card reactivated. They now state that because of the suspension the account will be closed and that is that. Has anybody else come across this situation, and what did you do about it. any help greatly appreciated

Since this arrangement isn't working out we have decided to sell the house i was on the phone with our mortgage company thinking i could tranfered the current mortgage onto my new property but the refused saying we have to clear the arrears and staying up to date for at least 12 months before they will consider giving me a mortgage, you can only imagine how frustrated i am now with my brother so i called him and explained the whole situation to him. I am just a computer engineer and he is an accountant ( part qualified i think).
he told me that he will get write a letter stating that the whole debt is his responsibility in order to help my credit rating.

Opened my barclaycard account last week of March and set up a direct debiot from my Barclays account. First payment due May 14th, and I have just noticed a late payment charge from Barclaycard for £12, they haven't taken the direct debit from my Barclays current account.

Barclaycard have had the direct debit bank details (which are correct) showing in my online banking since March, I have checked my Barclays current account and low and behold they haven't set up a direct debit?!

Where do I stand? I have sent an email pretty much asking wtf! I hope they refund the £12 and ensure my credit report does not show a late payment, over 7 weeks is more than ample time to set up a direct debit surely?!

Looking for anyone with a Lloyds TSB Avios Duo Card.

I have a load of issue with applying / getting this card. ended up having to appeal a decline decision and was told the only way of getting one was to apply via paper application in branch and the decision would be changed from no to yes. the only application form the branch had was a 23.9% Tier 3 application form, i was told by PLD team i can have any card i want. 11.9 advance card to 21.9% Premier Duo.

Lo and behold the application got appealed successfully and they put me on the 23.9 % rate.

Im currently appealing the APR decision again as i was told it was typical i would be put on.

However, I also have made purchases last month and they told me it would show up on next month’s statement. If I paid off my account in full this month, will it show up on my credit report the previous balance of £300 with no payment being made even though I cleared it before the min payment was due?

MBNA Cash Advance

Hi,

I recently accidently used my MBNA visa credit card to make an ATM withdrawal. Don't ask me how it's a long story.

Anyway I have received a £5 charge for withdrawing this £30 which is annoying but my own fault. My question is on interest, I have repaid £30 onto my account straight away as I know interest applies to cash advances immediately, is this enough to stop accruing interest or does a cash advance immediately nullify my interest free period on purchases? I am wondering whether I need to pay off the full balance now to avoid any interest on purchase.

Any help appreciated, thanks.

I currently have a Platinum Simplicity card with Barclays. The interest rate is 6.8% for the life of the card.

I want to get a 0% balance transfer and use one of their new products (Barclaycard Platinum - 0% BT for 17 months with 1.6% handling fee), but according to the website and the free eligibility checker on it, existing Barclaycard customers are not eligible.

I called customer services who seemed to think I could be eligible for the new product if I applied. I'd like to find out if anyone else has been successful with this before I have a go.

Any assistance gratefully received.

Ok, i have taken out a simplicity card from Barclaycard at a rate of 7.9% to replace my Bank of Scotland card after they raised my rate (and credit limit oddly) to an eye watering rate of 21.9%. (i know this is more of a standard rate now but...to hell with that) I do not have a balance outstanding, (have my balance on virgins 0% card) and pay the full amount each month. I did this more out of protest than anything else. However, when i was looking over the Barclaycard's online site, I noticed that it tells me that I can not arrange a balance transfer as there is no promotional offers. Well I know this and given the rate is only 7.9% I hardly expected any "offers", but surely I should be able to transfer funds from a higher rate card should the need ever arise?

Any thoughts?
