Just seen a Engine & Fuel System Treatment kit on QVC that claims to clean your engin and improve your fuel efficiency by up to 25%. can anyone tell me if these products work? the product on QVC was Asta 3000 Engine & Fuel System Treatment 3 Piece Kit.

Fuel system treatments cost a little over £5 in accessory shops and I think Slick50, which goes in the oil and is claimed to reduce friction, costs £10-15. These products are well established and the QVC stuff will just be a cheaper version of them.

25% is a bold claim, you will probably find your car is a bit smoother, faster and more economical but not hugely so. If your car is getting a bit tired it's probably worth a try, but opinions are mixed on whether they do any good. Personally I'd steer clear of the QVC stuff.

Two words for all these additives - Snake Oil. Nothing you can put in your oil will reduce friction or in your fuel will improve consumption by 25%. The only stuff I have ever been told will help do any good are additives to the fuel which will help clean injectors and lubricate the injection pump. The latter is particularly relevant in Diesel engines when the pumps can suffer due to the lack of Sulphur in the fuel which, if present, lubricates the pump. None of these devices have much measurable effect and some of them have been forced to change or even withdraw their advertising, under direct orders from the ASA.

agree strongly with the above post - dont touch this type of thing with a barge pole, even Slick 50.
