Zafira Question

We have decided to buy a second hand Zafira for about £8k. My initial thoughts are that I would like the 2.0DTI but can anyone advise as to which would be best?

There are not many diesels in this price range but there are quite a few 1.6's. This sounds like a very small engine for a fairly large vehicle and I guess performance will be pretty sluggish. Has anyone experienced any of these and if so can you give some advice please?

Also, what is the economy like?

The Zafira is a very good car, we are on our second. I would read Honest john's reviews on this car, he rates them quite highly.
There is some problems with oil consumption with some of the diesels, with some owners having to put in a litre or oil per 1k, and also the ease at which the spare wheel can be pinched.
We had a 1.6 petrol, then got a 1.8 auto, and wish we had got a auto years ago, they make driving much more relaxing, the wife absolutly loves it.

I've got a 2.0 Diesel on a 52 plate. I've had it since new. It's fairly nippy,I would imagine anything smaller than this would really struggle. Fuel economy is ok.

The shock absorbers do have problems and my steering is playing up at the moment(due in the garage next week) I'm changing to VW Sharran later this month but keeping the Zafira as a second car. Overall pleased with it.
