MSE Martin

This board is now one of the site's most popular. And i know many people come here direct bypassing the main site.

So let me say a few things

MoneySavingExpert.com is completely free, you're never charged. It has no advertising. It is all about stopping companies screwing us and working out how to legally screw them back.

All of this means this site is a top bargain

If you like the site please join the free weekly money tips e-mail

The site has a weekly money tips e-mail detailing all the latest and urgent ways to save. It also includes a selection of freebies each week. It is of course free and ad free too - to start receiveing it, please go to

www.moneysavingexpert.com/tips

Also do note joinging the tips is separate to registering to use the Chat Forum.

From the perspective of the site (and me), getting people to join up is really important as it means I can contact you when there's an urgent way to save. Also in truth it means retaining traffic which is really useful.

So if you're enjoying your time using the site and want to help, please do sign up for the weekly money tips and ask your friends to join it as well.

If you'd like to know more about the site and how it is funded go to About the site (http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/aboout.phtml)

Yeah, I admit I come to this board first. Like 160, I love all the other boards. Go on, have a browse! ;D

By the way, Martin, what does this mean? ???

"Also in truth it means retaining traffic which is really useful. " ???

MSE Martin

Basically Jo

When you have a website you rely on people to come to you. With an email you can tell people about something without them coming to you. So the email is a way of reaching out to people. In other words next week the tart alert comes out - i hope it'll be very popular. If there was no email, then i'd have to rely to people deciding to come to the site, but the email means i can simply say "oy new tart alert, come and look"

Being able to direct people both helps them know whats happening, but also means that the few clean revenue generating areas.

martin :)

martin i love this site, i thank you oh great one

just one question why the name 'tart' as in tart alert i just thought it was hilarious when i first noticed it, is it abbreviated for something
;D ;D ;D

yes, I keep picturing people standing on street corners eating discount jam tarts.

I'll admit it, of late I haven't been paying as much attention to the other boards but I do receive your email ;D

Note to Martin :- I wish to order a Blonde Tart. ;D

MSE Martin
15-11-2004, 8:05 PM
If you read the full details about the tart alert - you'll see why. Basically credit card tarting is what you call moving 0% to 0% to 0% - tarting your custom.

I differentiate between two approaches

Being a tart
Having a stable relationship

To Martin, I would just like to say that whenever I catch you on TV you always mention the Citizens Advice Bureau, and I have to say many thanks. I worked there for 10yrs as a volunteer and know the good work they do, especially the money advisors, the one I knew worked much more hours than expected and the Bureaux as a whole deserve a mention.
Thanks very much AnnieP

I signed up a few weeks ago.... truly love the site... spend ages reading thru most of it! (will this always be the case?) probably :j
When I read about the advantages (to the site) of signing up newbies, I emailed simply loads of people and told them about the site, sent them a link and suggested they register their email addresses PDQ!

I've juggled finances/credit cards etc... somewhat over the last couple of weeks due to what I've learned from 'The Man' and have saved loads!!! am well chuffed (can I say chuffed?)
So... many thanks to Martin & his staff :T

Newbie, Thanks Martin for all you have done, I only joined a few days ago, just after i received my Asda credit card on 0% for 6 months. I use it for shopping and retail purchases as i don't get charged interest and i can save my money to pay on bills with interest, there for saving me money. Oh and i also use the card to buy in bulk in the supermarket when they have discounts or reduced items, saving me more money! The sight is excellent and i have recommended it to my friends. Not sure if i am allowed to say this or not but here goes. Has anyone heard of Credit Union? They have helped me loads, as i used them to obtain low cost loans of just 1% on a decreasing balance, and then used that loan to pay of other loans with higher interest rates. Anyone wanting to know more just let me know.

Hi,
I'm a new forum member but signed up for Martin's e-mail a few weeks ago.
Thanks to Martin I've switched to Tesco for my home contents insurance (50% reduction for a limited time), saving over 80.00 on my premium. More Than 147.00, Tesco 61.00. Brilliant!!!

I'd just like to post to say a huge thank you for this site and forum! I've completely changed the way I shop thanks to this site.

I've got: free cinema tickets, entered competitions and (its never too early!) got tons of ideas for Christmas hampers which I intend to begin shopping for this week. My boyf also collected £400 in bank charges.

Thank you Martin and fellow board members!! .. I'm officially addicted to this site

It is of course free and ad free too - to start receiveing it, please go to

www.moneysavingexpert.com/tips (http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/tips)

Also do note joinging the tips is separate to registering to use the Chat Forum.

From the perspective of the site (and me), getting people to join up is really important as it means I can contact you when there's an urgent way to save. Also in truth it means retaining traffic which is really useful.

So if you're enjoying your time using the site and want to help, please do sign up for the weekly money tips and ask your friends to join it as well.

If you'd like to know more about the site and how it is funded go to About the site (http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/aboout.phtml)

... well, if you're after some freebies you've come to the right place  ; take a look on the main freebies page for something that takes your fancy ( http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.html?f=37 ), click on the thread and read the first post, usually you have to click a link and enter your details on another site to get your freebie... sit and wait excitedly for the posty (although some freebies come more quickly than others!! :o )

I've been perusing this site and the forums for some time now and took the leap of registering today.

Now, call me an old grouch if you like but so few contributors seem to understand the titles of the forum threads.

Whenever I click on a thread expecting to find pages of bargains all that I find is one bargain in the original post and reams of gushing praise for the website.

Either that or reams of posts gloating about who got what for free.

Surely there must be other threads purely for those purposes.

It just makes it so difficult and time-consuming trying to find the real deals.

Somebody really needs to tidy up and moderate these forums.

Now that I've got that off my chest

Where is the new, current "Top Top Bargain"?

Hello! I have always thought I'm pretty good at keeping track of my finances....I am on Incapacity Benefit and need to keep an eye on every penny! I signed up here a couple of days ago - for help/support on my DLA claim...but discovered so much more!
I've sent off for a couple of freebies; decided to claim back my bank charges (thought I'd have to wait, but looks like I have grounds to claim now!); downloaded a free computer game (great entertainment when I'm housebound!); and now I've just signed up for the weekly e-mails!....and I've also had some great support for my original problem....there's so much here - even for someone who thought she 'knew it all!'
If I get all this in a week, what can I get next week?!!!

Hi Freegan (you ole grouch you!) and welcome - you can stop hitting your head because - don't worry you will soon get the hang of things and start to enjoy this whole thing :T

The main thing to realise is that each separate post refers to a single new freebie/competion or bargain that someone has put on for others to apply for & enjoy if they like the sound of it.

Just read the title of each thread/post.

If it is something you think would interest you or you would like to apply for or send off for then click on the thread/post. It will explain/show you what the freebie/bargain/comp. is. You will also see a link or maybe a site address or reference - something that will take you through to what the thread/post is about so you can apply for it.

Each thread is for a different item and all the posts/comments that follow on that thread is for those to thank or comment on that same particular item.

Posting a comment about the post moves it up the board for other people to see/gain from as well as allowing you to thank/comment about it.

Hope this helps to clear things up - good luck with your freebies/bargains & good luck with finding things to post for others :T:T

Is great on here - sure you will love it!!!

93 day free trial for LoveFilm!

EPAL3M4 this code still works! its from a while ago, but still going good.

If anyone is having probs with address being used twice, try clicking on 'address not listed' after it searches your postcode. type in your postcode in a slighty different format. Use full stops, commas, shorten Road to RD, etc. This seems to confuse the system to recognise it as a new address. Its worked for me so far. Not paid for a DVD in over 2 years! :j

go to www . lovefilm. com (sorry as a new member I can't put links in for some reason?!)

Make sure you are not signed in on any account.

In the top right corner where it says 'sign up for your free fourteen day trial now', there's a box for 'promotional code'. Enter the code which was posted above and follow the instructions. Takes about 5 mins. Worked for me anyway.
