I've seen this Clio at a dealers: http://dealerservices.autotrader.co.uk/109461/stocklist.htm (It's on the 3rd page and is 6th one down- the red one)

What do you make of it?

It is a 2001 Y reg, 47k miles, 1.2 and is up for £2400. I know it's fairly basic, but that's all I need as it would be my first car.

I've heard say that I should check that the cambelt has been changed.......is this true?

Thanks

Looks alright. I haven't bothered looking at asking prices for private sales yet though.

According to Autodate, a 2001 clio 1.2 16v shows that renault reccomend that the belt should be changed at 72k miles or 5 years, whichever is sooner. As it is 7 years old, I would suggest yes. Have you looked at the service book? Does it say if the timing belt has been replaced?

I don't think the model you are looking at is a 16 valve. If this is the case (find out) then if you know someone who knows about cars, they might be able to change the belt on an 8v car.

I am not a car whizz, this is just my basic knowledge

By the way, what a weird dealer?

Their lowest value car is a Rover @ £1,450 while their highest car is a Porsche Cayenne @ £52,995.

What a range in value of cars, lol

the rover will have been a trade in. a lot of dealers are selling thier own trade ins on thier fourcourt rather than auctioning them off nowadays.

look at evans halshaw the have a range called runabouts, cars starting at £900.in most dealerships.
