I was in my local Tesco today and at least 12 of the Disabled Parking bays were taken by non badge holders - this abuse seems to be worse at weekends although still happens in the week to a slightly lesser extent.
Has anyone else noticed this?

Yes, and cars with badges with the driver merrily walking away!

Yes, I see it often, and it seems worst on Saturday nights.

There's been lots of threads on this subject with war always breaking out between those who have a blue badge, those who think they should have blue badge and those who don't have a blue badge. Wonder who'll "win" this "discussion"?

I know I should generalize but it is a fact if you watch the type of people doing these abuses they are Parents with children (even though they have their own spaces) youngsters (looks like first car) and some 4X4's.

But the moral is if you have a badge you can use them if you haven't bu**er of out of them?

Clamping offending cars would soon sort this out but the supermarkets don't seem to be interested.

the wort offender i ever saw doing this was a fat girl at mcdonalds, she didnt have a badge but i think she was disabled as she didnt even have the ability to park the car in 1 disabled space, she parked at an angle in the yellow grid part between 2 disabled spaces, rendering both useless, the car park was very busy but she quite happily munched on a burger inside.

The people I see the most in these spaces are:
(1) Sales reprobates
(2) Chavs
(3) Monyed chavs who have grown up with a better car but the same attitude
The common factor is that they think they are better than others and can do what they want when they want.

Sorry but are you a doctor?
Just because a person has a blue badge doesn't mean to say they are capable of walking long distances etc. They may be capable of walking for the few secs you see them, but how do you know they dont have a heart condition, walking with some pain or have balance problems
They may be some fraud about but I see far more caused by able bodied people parking is disabled places without displaying any blue badge just so they are closer to the shop or cash machine

Clamping offending cars would soon sort this out but the supermarkets don't seem to be interested.Just putting up a sign warning that you will be clamped would sort out most of them, as they wouldn't take the risk. Cheap, easy, no clamp, staff or paperwork required.

A Somerfield near me has 18 parking spaces in its car park: 11 of them are reserved for the "disadvantaged minorities" !
61% for the minority
39% for the majority

Surely a good idea would be to stick a car in a disabled bay and put a clamp on it as a display of what will happen to other drivers ;) Maybe big pieces of paper wall paper pasted across it "car clamped - awaiting lifting truck"

Undoubtedly it is a small Somerfield, probably in a small quiet village where lots of old people live and the disabled spaces are needed.

bare in mind, my local Maccies tell you go park in the disabled bays if the grill bays are full (which it sounds like they were)... you dont know there wasnt a great big van forcing her to park like that 2 minutes earlier..
not defending, just saying think out of the box

the company i used to work for (in Manchester) the cleaner used to 'buy' his disabled badge from someone every 6 months. Parking costs are nasty in Manchester.
Dont no if this still goes on

£60 fine in our local Adsa in a few weeks, same for mother and toddler but these are now for children up to 12 yr. Good work from Asda but a cop out on the mother and toddler bays.

i know for certain there was nothing causing this other than her fat lazy parking,to the right of her was half a space then the kerb, agreat big van wouldnt have fitted in there.
why would she be asked to park in a disabled bay because the grill order was full when she was inside filling her face, did she go to the drive thru and then take her food inside?

Completely unenforcable. Asda (nor their supplier Town & City parking) cannot issue a 'fine' - only a court can do that.
They can try to claim that you have breeched an alleged contract, but their losses are in no way £60 - take a look at http://www.thegreatparkingticketswindle.co.uk (http://www.thegreatparkingticketswindle.co.uk/) and

Benefits and perks available to the disabled are one of the biggest cons going.
Some genuine cases, I am sure, but for the rest of them, stop their benefits, make them go and get a job like everyone else, and don't be scared by the threat of disability discrimination complaints.

Sorry I dont agree that these perks are a con.
I have a 17 year old disabled daughter she has balance problems and can only walk with a aid of a stick, she also has poor circulation so she feels the cold. She doesn't work she is at college
Yes she gets money DLA for care and mobility. She has a blue badge. She would much rather have proper mobility just like a normal person
They may be a small amount of fraudulent claims, but that's life.
From my own experience it is extremely hard getting DLA and a blue badge, she did it in wrong order blue badge first then DLA. You only get a blue badge if you get the higher rate mobility DLA
She got turned down for both appealed and won, it seems to be quiet common. They do a great deal of checking or they did in her case, writing to her doctor, surgeon who operated on here in October 2006, it is not easy getting DLA or blue badge.
So the perk she gets is for help with care, help for transport, free bus pass with carer to go along and odd perk like going to pictures with carer (her sister) going free which she didn't use because she is embarrassed and both paid full price. The other perk like parking close to supermarket when she is with us only. Oh and she gets subsided taxi to college which we pay £100 per annum
She would much rather not have to claim DLA or use a blue badge and I am sure many others are the same
