I am scared to post this as by doing so I am admitting I have a weight issue, and a bad one at that, but I was wondering if anyone has any experience with Xenical?
My doctor has prescribed it for me, and so far I've not had any of the dreaded side effects (Google it to see what I mean) Has it worked for you?
Before people start on about what a slob I am and ask what I am eating - I have radically transformed my eating habits - I had to prove I could loose weight a little before I was prescribed Xenical. I eat lots of fruit and veg now, very little meat, and get exercise. I bought a bike the other week and do an hours bike ride every day.
Sorry if I am been defensive, just it's a sensitive subject for me, and I've seen people shot down on these boards before. Any advice would be great though :)

Please don't be scared!!:D
Someone I know was on it for several months. It didn't suit her she said because she got stomach cramps and had a few "accidents" :o :o Sounded pretty awful to me.

Mind you she has a habit of only half-listening to what medical staff tell her and never reading the info sheets you get with medication. I think she thought she could eat whatever she liked and in whatever quantities and the weight would drop off as she took the pills. But it didn't!!

I will say there are a lot of people out there who have weight problems who are in denial though. So many people say "I've tried every diet going and I just cannot lose weight. Nothing works for me." You have to change your way of eating for more than a day!! I know someone who reckons nothing works for her but I can't remember her ever following ANY eating plan properly. She thinks she can eat chocs, biscuits, chips and sarnies, browse through a slimming book and she'll lose half a stone overnight!!:rotfl: :rotfl:

Hi kendalls cave

I tried this several years ago (when it was still very new on the market) and just wanted to wish you luck with it. It can work for you, and it sounds like you have a sensible approach to working with it which is great - trust me, it is impossible to take Xenical and not amend your eating habits without some nasty side effects (I had a couple of "slip ups" food-wise whilst on it..."oh, how bad can it really be...?" - VERY bad is the answer...I quickly learned that I couldn't "cheat" and hope to get away with it!! :o).

Glad you (and others) are already seeing the positive side effects - good on you for tackling your weight problem (ignore people who feel the need to have a go - there are lots more of us out there who share the same problem and are just full of admiration for you for dealing with it :T). I hope that the Xenical helps you achieve the result you want! :D

Hi kendalls cave, tried Xenical, didnt work for me, no real physcological assistance, ie root causes of being obese - and whilst I dont disagree with the sincerity of the answers so far, diet pills did work for me, specifically reductil.
The pill speeded up my metabolism and reduced my appetite allowing me to come down from 19 stone to 12 stone over a space of 1.5 years.
I am now 11.2 stone having kept the weight off for 2 further years and enjoy regular gym activities, healthy eating and abstention from my danger foods, ie. steak n ale pies, fish n chips, indian food and wine.
I am still enjoying chocolate, crisps and chinese food, but in great moderation.
The drug effectively enabled me to deal with the physcological problems that had prevented me from loosing weight for some 19 years, so that from age 20 until 39 I was sentenced by my own weaknesses and ignorance about bad foods to be grossly obese - it sucks, and the only way you will loose it is from within, I just needed a strong drug to help me !
So see your GP, and provided your heart is up to it, under close medical supervision with regular blood pressure tests, give it a go.
Dont forget that it is potentially dangerous to take reductil, but 110 % dangerous to be obese and develop early diabetes/ cancer/ heart disease etc etc..

Thanks all for you kind and supportive replies. Well I've been on it a week tomorrow, and it is working. I've lost half a stone. :j The great thing about Xenical is that I can't cheat and eat rubbish, because I will suffer . Not that I have tried to cheat. I hate exactly the same stuff without Xenical with no weight loss.
I see my GP again next week (who prescribed it ) so am been kept a close eye on. I am so excited to be finally on the road to a thinner and healthier me

Xenical didn't work for me and it was as if I had been eating heinz beans for lunch breakfast and dinner. My problem is that I eat lots of carbs and do not really eat much fat honestly.
I wash my ground beef in water after cooking it and am very concious about fat. I think if you have a high fat diet it will work for you and also make you cut down on the fat or otherwise you will get cramps and toot toot ya know what I mean.
I know a lady in the market and she has lost 3 stone and is very excited about it. The person that said reductil works for them, how much do you take? I mean grams tablets please. Thanks Taffy

Carbs are my downfall potatoes, bread etc. No butter on the potatoes tho and very little on the bread but bring on the ole carbs.
I did have a terrible accident on Xenical one fine day when I had 2 eggs, bacon and sausage oooeeee wouldn't like to repeat that. If I ate like that normally I wouldn't be able to on Xenical but this was a one off treat NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I lost 5 stone taking Xenical. Unfortunately due to circumstances I was taken off it,then I relapsed and gained alot back.

If anyone on it has suffered the dreaded orange oil or "accidents" then it is simply because you are not following the diet and are consuming too much fat. It is not rocket science. :o

Good luck in your weight loss.

Kendalls cave, I am sending you a pm.

Please ignore the post by someone who only has two posts and recommends a weight loss drug. I find those kinds of posts highly suspicious.

Hi-my mom was given these tablets by her gp. She lost over a stone on them, but kept having 'accidents'....the person who said if you keep to low fat food you shouldnt have any accidents-well my mom's either lying/in denial or they didnt agree with her. I dont live with her-so can't say. I do wish she could have stayed on them though and got the weight down to a more managable level.

They dont sound too nice to take though.

I said that, and from my experience if you stick to a low fat diet ( as you are warned to) you have no issues. But too many people see them as a miracle tablet, where you can still eat rubbish and loose weight. Not if you don't want the nasty affects you can't

Hi

I was on Xenical last year and wenbt from 14st 2 (BMI of 32) to 12st 2, it wasn;t quick by any means, but with careful eating (EVERYTHING below 5% fat) it does work, I did have a slip after a family crisis meeting that included 1 1/2 bottles of red wine and numerous handfuls of pistachios and was unable to go to work until lunchtime the next for fear of 'reprisals', but you only do it once!

However I must say Nothing has budged for 4 months now and I'm stuck at 12st 2 no matter what I do, don't know if it's stopped working for me, but it has now given me a shove to start on the Wii Fit, and after another stone (hopefully) brave the gym with all it's bunnies (and my work colleagues)

I personally didn;t find the monthly 'support calls' great, it was eally a 'so have you messed yourself this month?' kind of conversation, that could be just me, and/or the person calling.

But congrats on your success so far and I wish you well

My Dr prescribed Xenical for me but I couldn't get on with it, I don't have a very high fat diet and didn't have any accidents but, I had the most agonising stomach cramps while taking them and decided to stop. Did anyone else have this problem?

Well done on your great start kendalls cave  Glad it's working for you.

Been on the medication for a week, and i'm using it in conjunction with an increased exercise regime. I've been prescribed it as I have high blood pressure and my GP can't figure out why. I'm probably a couple of stones overweight so losing weight is the next logical step to ruling out the cause.

Yup, I've been tango'd and had a couple of rather embarrassing "side effect" moments - largely due (I think) to having a pizza after a couple of beers. My dietician did warn me of what could happen though, so it was self-inflicted :-)

What advice have other people received about alcohol?

I've been told to cut down and I've taken that advice - hence my belief is was the pizza that caused the "accident". I generally have between 4 and 6 pints of real ale on a Friday and a Saturday night, so no more than 12 a week at the most. I don't drink at home at all. I'm interested to find out whether people think that's too much...

Not tried Xenical myself.
I've been well overweight for several years now and decided to do something about it. Bought the Slimming World plan literature off eBay and set out on the plan going it alone!

After several months, I hit a serious plateau - nothing was shifting no matter what I did or didn't do. Saw my GP and explained what was going on and he offered me the Xenical. Gave me all the blurb and said come back in x-amount of weeks to discuss further. By the next appointment I'd lost nearly another half stone.
I seriously considered the Xenical but my daily diet was already almost identical to the one the manufacturer recommended so I didn't see how it would be much use to me in some ways. I already have tummy 'problems', so could do without extra 'hassle'!

Good luck to everyone with their weightloss journeys, however you go about it. I'm lucky - I've found a plan that suits my day-to-day and family life, works for me and is paying off. I've gone from a size 26 to a 14 top/16 bottom in 16 months and I'm still losing steadily. I don't spend any time at the gym or have to go out of my way for a fitness routine: music and housework combined works great for me. I'm more confident and feel like a new woman!

However you do it, it is worth it!
