Scratched Bumber on parked car

Hi,

Was parking up and scratched the bumper on a car next to me. I didnt realise i had done it at first (the car park is off road and really bumpy).

i noticed the scratch on my car first so went and had a look on the other car - it wasnt too bad (most would probably wipe off). I felt guilty so waited around a bit - was in a park so realised i could be waiting for ever. decided to leave a note but didnt have a pen or paper - nipped to the shop but when i came back the other car had gone.

Am worried someone might think i have driven off. i have informed the police but have been told this needs to be reported in person - only problem is i didnt take down the cars reg or anything and have to go down later on today. Any advice

No advice but wanted to say well done for being so honest and trying to do the right thing.
I would try not to worry too much the car owner is unlikely to bother to report it and I think the police would simply keep your details just in case they did. I don't think they would actually charge you with anything if you know what I mean.
