Hi all, bit of a tricky one for you.
I have purchased a category D vehicle where the only damage at present is a missing plastic wheel arch.
I have had the vehicle checked over by my local mechanic who can find no problems, and states that all the parts are original parts.
I have spoken to motability who say that they had sold the vehicle by the time of the incident.
I am therefore trying to figure out ways to complete the jigsaw.
Any thoughts?

I have the previous keeper to the one I purchased the car from as a result of the v5.
There number is ex directory therefore i have sent him a letter.
As a result of what motability have said I think that the damage may have occurred whilst a 3rd party had ownership of the vehicle.
Therefore between the last keeper and lad I bought it from.
I know her bought the car at auction but not much more.

You can request full keeper history from DVLA by using form V888 and for fee of £5. Form is downloadable from www.direct.gov.uk (http://www.direct.gov.uk).
You can request to know all keepers including any traders. So if it had been in trade between person shown as previous keeper and who you bought it from. They may be able to shed some light?
However it will only ever show keepers that have notified DVLA that they had the vehicle, so may not have the people you were looking for in the history.
Or ask your insurance company to check the MIAFTR database to see which insurance company set the Cat D and try contacting them maybe? (Not sure if that is possible though)

As flutterby has said, you can request a list of previous keepers. When I did it for my car a year or two ago, they sent me photocopies of the previous V5's, all stapled together. Provided the keepers still live at the same address you will be able to write to them. Problems arise if they have moved since, for example I wanted to contact the original owner of my car but the chances are they have moved house since 1988! :rotfl:
