It does exist
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11141639?ordinalpos=1&itool=EntrezSystem2.PEntrez.Pubmed.Pubmed_ResultsP anel.Pubmed_DiscoveryPanel.Pubmed_Discovery_RA&linkpos=3

but is incredibly rare. Are you sure regarding the diagnosis? I think its more likely that you or your mum had misheard or misunderstood the diagnosis.

As for ringing NHS direct, about as good as ringing the plumber and asking about the disease. They are useless.

Got a text from my dad last night - apparently she has been exposed to TB at some stage (not suprised as her school were she works had a outbreak earlier this year) and it has effected her eyes. She has to take anti-biotics for 6 monhs and there is no risk to my children (her grandkids). Going to go see her later. Thanks for all your wishes

Thanks Melancholly, I agree.

OP I'm sure your mum is in good hands, wishing her well.

If I had been given your mum's diagnosis these are the questions I would be asking:

What impact will this diagnosis and treatment have on:

Future vision
Coexisting and future health problems
Current and future private health insurance
Current and future life insurance
Current and future travel insurance
Which government and other bodies have been given details of my diagnosis of this communicable disease
Current and future visa applications for other countries
