hi, i have been reading the forums for ages but never posted before. i was wondering if anyone knows what a 'slipped pelvis' is?
i went to a physiotherapist today and the lady said this is what i have as one hip is higher than the other? have only had this problem since my fourth pregnancy four years ago.
this is a moneysaving question as she said that i need to strengthen my muscles and if i knew a bit more about the problem then i might have an idea what equipment to use other than swimming which she recommended (but i am rubbish at.) have tried googling 'slipped pelvis' but found nothing!! thanks a lot:D

Hi glitterfairy - and welcome :)
http://www.plus-size-pregnancy.org/pubicpain.htm
I am a physio, although I never worked in this field specifically. I think the above link give a fairly good description of what I think you might be talking about.
Basically when you are pregrant, hormones are released into the body to make all the normally tight and supportive ligaments more stretchy (making it easier for baby to squeeze out!). As the hormones affect the WHOLE body this means that during pregnancy it is fairly common to get aches and pains in any joints, as they are not as well supported if you like. Problems in the pelvis are particulary uncomfortable as you weight bear on the pelvis as you stand, walk and sit (maybe why the physio recommended swimming as it is non weight bearing through the legs). There are in fact 3 main joints in the pelvis (2 at the back joining with the tailbone, and one at the front where the two halves of the pelvis meet at your pubic bone area).
I wonder if your physio is referring to the fact that one of these joints is 'out of place' if you like - maybe happened during your 4th preganancy. It could cause your pelvis to not be level/symmetrical, leading to having one hip higher than the other?
Sorry for the vaugeness!! If you are going back to see the physio, ask them to explain it to you a bit better so you can understand how best to help yourself :)
hope that helps? ;) best wishes

thanks very much flugellover. the physio did mention about hormones making the pelvis looser, and the link was very informative. i think when she says 'slipped pelvis' this may also be referred to as 'misalignment of the pelvis' according to the link you gave me, so now i can try googling that for some info instead of 'one hip higher than the other'!!!

glad the link helped :) obviously it's difficult to know about your specific problem without more details, but I thought the link might give you a bit more of the terminology to start looking for more specific info
hope things get sorted out for you soon;)
