Tissot watch - battery replacement

Don't know if I have posted this in the correct place.
I have a tissot watch that I got as an 18th Birthday present of my mum 3 years ago. I took it to have a new battery and I was told it will cost £40 and will take 10 days as it has to be sent away. I have agreed to this but wanted to know where I can go in the future and can't I just do it myself? The watch is £100 so £40 for a battery and fittings seems like too much

Definitely have it sent back to Tissot for the battery to be replaced. letting a jeweller do it will nullify any guarantee and can just ruin the watch.

I have a Tissot watch too (which was also a present) and have found that any repairs on it are much more expensive than I would expect. On the plus side, it seems to be going up in value which I didn't anticipate. The last time I took it in for a repair (which cost £100) the jeweller told me it was worth £700 at today's prices, but when it was given to me about 6 years ago it cost less than half that price. Never had that happen before with a watch!

I really like mine, and think it is worth a bit extra to keep it up and running, but maybe its a bit like owning a classic car? If you find it too expensive to run, maybe trade down to a cheaper model, and keep the Tissot in your jewellery box without battery for sentimental reasons.
