View Full Version : Botox - how long before it works

Last Thursday I took the plunge and had botox on my crows feet and on my frown just above my nose between my eyes.

I also had some above my bottom lip and had a dermal filler for my lip lines at the same time. (I had a couple of scars from where one of my dogs bit through my mouth about 10 years ago that coincided with my lip lines so tried to get these minimised).

The dermal filler has done it's stuff and filled out the lines and will apparently last about 9 months (thank goodness it lasts that long as I don't know how often I could manage to have loads of needles plunged into such a delicate area - I had anaesthetic cream too so thought I'd not feel a thing. What a fool I was:D ).

I can't seem to frown now which is great but when I smile I can see that the botox hasn't yet stopped my crows feet. It says to allow 48-72 hours to take effect properly but it is now 5 days later.

Anyone else out there who'll admit to having botox on their crow's feet able to give me the benefit of their experience?

looking to get Botox done myself so i was wondering how you had got on - is there any difference round the eyes yet ?
i thought it was a bit costly to have to get done every few months - but i saw someone on breakfast tv and he said you only need it done 4 times and then it lasts forever - do you know if this is true and wouldnt every one get it if it was that simple ?
When you are quoted one area to be done what does this cover - one frown line between the eyebrows is a lot smaller than lines from nose to mouth ( and as you ve got two of those are these counted as two areas ? you could hardly get just one side done).
I also wanted those lines from corners of mouth going down done I think they make you look like you r frowning.
I saw someone put an message about transformers a clinic offering 1/2 price eg one area for £99 instead of £200 but that ran out end of Feb.
Dont know wether to wait for offer to come round again ( by that time i may have gone beyond the point of no return).
Can I ask how much it cost you and were you went - if you dont want the world to know perhaps you could send a pm i would be very grateful ?
I didnt really want to go to a clinic for consultation before i got some info. in case i couldnt escape.
Hope you r looking good !

I know loads of people who have had botox – some get it regularly and others like me only a week or so before a special occasion. It seems to work best on your forehead and on the two vertical lines some people have at the top of the nose. They can sometimes be paralyzed altogether. Crows feet will still be visible but greatly reduced because they do not want you not to be able to close your eyes.

There is a difference which has taken effect more on one side than the other but tomorrow I go back and have a top up if necessary. (I'm going to tell her it is necessary!). It has taken over a week to affect my crow's feet though - it says up to 72 hours in the literature.

What I have been told is that botox lasts 3-4 months but after a while you may only need to have it done a couple of times a year. It definitely doesn't last forever.

When you are quoted one area to be done what does this cover - one frown line between the eyebrows is a lot smaller than lines from nose to mouth ( and as you ve got two of those are these counted as two areas ? you could hardly get just one side done).

I felt a right fool for asking the lady who did mine a similar question. Thankfully though you don't just get one side done. My crow's feet around both eyes are classed as one area, the couple of frown lines just above my nose was another area and I also had some above my lip line in addition to having a filler there.

The forehead worked brilliantly and I had great fun after a couple of days trying to frown in my mirror. I can see what the filler has done to the lines around my lips (although I think I need a top up) but can't see that the botox has done in that area.

The lines from nose to mouth aren't usually done with botox but by using a filler which actually lasts longer. I am waiting until I'm happy with the crows feet and lip lines before having this done. The stuff my lady is going to use apparently lasts for 2 years. My understanding is that botox is used on areas that wrinkle when you use the muscles (e.g. on crows feet because the lines appear when you smile) but lines that are there when your face is relaxed require a dermal filler.

I also wanted those lines from corners of mouth going down done I think they make you look like you r frowning.

I think that will be by botox.

I went to a 'dental spa' - don't know why they call it that as it's a bog-standard dentist just up the road from me. I had a recommendation from my hairdresser who has had it done both there and elsewhere. What she said to me though is that it hurt a lot less at the dentist because the lady used loads of the diabetic needles to do it whereas last time she had it done at a local university and only one needle was used that kept being refilled. Believe me you don't want them to use blunt needles!

Botox cost me £275 for one area with £50 for each additional area so it cost me £375 for crows feet, frown and above lip.The filler for my lip lines cost £250.

I didnt really want to go to a clinic for consultation before i got some info. in case i couldnt escape.

I do feel like I am looking better but I did expect more of a difference. Having said that the dentist did say that she prefers to under-do it rather than use too much and she has you back after two weeks to check on it and top up if necessary. The botox top up is free but any additional filler I have to pay £125 for as she has to open a new vial of the product.

By the way for anyone having filler, even if you have a local anaesthetic cream, don't expect it to be pain-free. Having it above my lips really really hurt. After a couple of days I had to slap on the foundation as my bruising was black - but that could be because I do generally bruise fairly easily. If I get topped up tomorrow (not looking forward to the pain) and it looks good and lasts 9 months though it will be well worth it. Don't want to be negative but I honestly wasn't expecting any pain at all and I would have preferred to have been fore-warned!

I agree - mine has worked a treat on those lines.

Have you noticed any other differences after having botox?

I think I've noticed that when I smile now I get some lines on my nose (like when you pretend to be a bunny, IYSWIM) and I can't remember ever noticing them before.

That seems a bit too much

My wife had her crows feet, frown area and lips done for £450! It was done by a proper plastic surgeon too and in this country!

That is very expensive, my crows feet cost £90 and I get it done at a beauty place in Watford by a doctor.

It takes upto 7 days to take full effect, and when I smile there is absolutly no crinkeling of the skin around my eyes, it's amazing and would reccommend it to anyone!!!!

That remimnds me - it's about time I had it done again!!!
