how do other disabled members get their powerchair in and out of the car?

I've got some folding aluminium ramps but they're difficult to use, and you need 1/2 the street's length.

I'm wondering about getting a hoist fitted to my Renault Kangoo but don't know where to go locally (Sheffield). I want to stow the wheelchair in the boot, and retain the rear passenger seats, rather than a full wheelchair coversion at the cost of the rear seats.

is it possible to get the adaptation done on Motorbility even if it's your own car?

thanks:D

The only way to be sure is to ask Motability (http://www.motability.co.uk/main.cfm) I suspect they will only help with the cost of Car Hoists fitted to motability Vehicles. But I have not had to use Motability so cannot be certain.

You may find you can pick up a car hoist secondhand from Disability Equipment register (http://www.disabreg.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/disabled%20adapted%20vehicles.htm) or Just Mobility (http://www.justmobility.co.uk/mobility_sales2.htm)or Ebay (http://search.ebay.co.uk/car-wheelchair-hoist_W0QQfrppZ50QQfsopZ1QQmaxrecordsreturnedZ300Q QsalicZ3)
I would imagine any garage that offers a Motability service will know who locally does the fitting of car hoists.
